Today we’re going to talk blogger problems.
a.k.a. Paige being super nitpick-y.
Because as much as I love blogging, I can’t deny that there are some things that I don’t love about blogging.
I did a post similar to this one a while back that focused on blog photography. It was fun reading the comments and seeing other bloggers who could relate to my points. So, I figured it was time to give it another go.
Let’s jump right in, shall we?
Inspiration ruts
I’m kicking this off with what I consider to be the worst thing about blogging, which is going through inspiration ruts.
In any sort of creative outlet or profession, people experience periods of time in which they feel lost or uninspired. And in blogging, it’s no different. I’ve gone through several inspiration droughts in my time blogging. Each of them made it difficult for me to not only come up with content, but also to write posts that I actually liked.
Inspiration ruts can take a huge toll on you mentally. And seeing days go by with no posts written can be rough. I definitely think of it as one of the most challenging aspects of being a blogger.
Lack of respect
A lot of non-bloggers fail to recognize the amount of work that goes into blogging. They assume that it’s nothing more than snapping a couple of pictures and writing a couple of sentences.
But in actuality, blogging is a lot of work. Being a blogger requires you to be a writer, a photographer, a website designer, and a content innovator. That doesn’t even include the work you do on social media or the research you may have to conduct before writing a post.
And on top of all of those things, bloggers have other life obligations. Many of us blog for fun, not professionally. It’s a lot to balance. Which is why it can be frustrating to hear people say that it isn’t a lot of work.
Between that algorithm and the follow/unfollow situation, it wouldn’t be possible for me to make this list without including it.
Bizarre emails
Another thing that can be mildly irritating about being a blogger is receiving strange or highly questionable emails. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with a few great brands over email. But I’ve also had the unfortunate pleasure of hearing from a few shady ones.
Sometimes I’ll get emails from companies asking me to buy their products or services (mostly from those companies that sell followers). What I find funniest about these emails is that many of them don’t even address me as Paige. They say things like “hi, currentlylately.com” or “dear, Currently.”
Newsflash: If you want someone to believe you’ve actually visited their blog before, you might want to call them by their name.
Technology struggles
Sometimes it feels like technology is working against us bloggers.
I’ve had posts randomly deleted. I’ve had links not work for no apparent reason. I’ve had posts not show up in the reader. I’ve had issues with my website layout. I’ve had my laptop die just as I was finishing up a draft.
I could go on and on. But I think you get the picture.
Technology can be a bit of a battle for a blogger. It has a way of making things exponentially more difficult than they should be.
Locations for photos
It seems as though there are so many bloggers out there who know where to find the perfect spots to take their outfit photos. I honestly don’t know how they do it. I take all of my photos in the same 3-4 spots (and finding those spots was difficult enough).
If you’re a blogger who knows how to locate great backgrounds, kudos to you (and please share your secrets)!
FYI: I think this goes without saying, but I genuinely do love blogging and all that it entails. These things may be frustrating at times. But like anything in life, it’s natural to expect ups and downs. I’m glad to be a blogger, even though I have to deal with its difficulties.
Thank you for reading! I hope you could relate to some of these points, and I’d love to hear some of your own blogger problems.
What are some blogger problems youve experienced?
Such a true post 😉 In fact, I have a similar one pre-blogged haha💗! pre-blogging is my secret weapon xx

Awesome post Paige. I can relate to 100% of the article. One of my issues as a blogger has been the lack of electricity. Now the keyboard won’t work. We can manage all the craziness as a blogger. By the way, blogging has become a full time job. Balancing personal life and all. Thank You for this article. We are not alone in the battle for better blogging.

[ Smiles ] Unfortunately, a lot of people are unaware of how much work blogging entails (They only find out when they start a blog of their own).

Very true! People who’ve never blogged before severely underestimate how much work it is!

Yes to the sketchy emails! I hate when I get offered a discount to promote a random brand I’ve never heard of before, or offers completely out of my niche

Exactly! I get ones completely out of my niche all the time too!

YAS! Finding inspiration (aka writer’s block) is probably the hardest thing. I experienced this too much with my old blog, so I created a new one that I much more passionate about and happier with. Another problem I face is when I know EXACTLY what I want to say, but I can’t seem to word it properly to convey how I’m thinking about it in my head!

Writer’s block is the worst! That’s awesome you’ve found something you’re more passionate about though! And I can totally relate to knowing what I want to say but not knowing how I want to say it too!

Botched up net speed, sedentary life-style (a byproduct of being deeply into writing) are some of my blogger problems. I can relate to this post.

You’re so right. So much goes into blogging and not being appreciated and the stupid Instagram algorithm, all just makes it more difficult. Such a nice post 😍😍

I can relate. Fortunately I don’t get shady emails, but there have been some interesting comments caught by the spam filter.

I totally feel the problem about posts getting deleted suddenly… sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t. It can be frustrating. —https://emilyryannblogblog.wordpress.com/2018/02/05/2018-valentines-day-decor/

I know right! There’s nothing worse than when you put time and energy into something only to have it deleted!

I agree with all of these. So far I’m having problems with inspiration for photos. I have these ideas and no one seems to either work a camera or wants to cooperate.

I’ve definitely struggled with photo inspiration as well! My camera is so finicky when it comes to lighting and clarity!

Hi Paige! I can relate to so much of what you said. Something else I’ve noticed is a lack of support from readers. Maybe people just don’t get how much a simple share can mean but sometimes, but when readers feel entitled (to your time, your reply, your help, etc.), it means a lot if they do their part and engage with your content and support you. I’ve had readers want me to do free translations, give them advice that takes 30 minutes of my time, and more and what grinds my gears the most is when they don’t even reply with a “thank you!” AHHHHH.

Love this post! Blogging does bring it’s problems! Mine is finding time for all the stuff you need to do, promote posts, Twitter chats, replying to comments, I love it all but so hard to fit it all in! The writing is the easy part for me but I do struggle with good photos!

Haha I get this too. I go in waves of ideas. So I write mock up drafts about loads of topics and then dabble around them all until they’re finished and I post them at certain times. I have my iPhone, iPad and laptop to help me be motivated. Helps the different types of writing positions. I also have my notepad and write mood boards. Write things that have caught my eye and things I’m interested in! Before blogging I would do that as a hobby and chuck it away so it nice sharing them instead!
