Products I Bought For the Packaging

Something you should know about me is that I’m not an impulsive shopper. Before I buy a product, I like to do a fair amount of research. No one wants to spend their money on something and end up hating it, especially if it’s a high-end product. And while I try to stick to the philosophy of only buying things that I’ve read dozens of reviews on, there are times when I’ve been convinced to purchase products simply because of their packaging. I’d like to pretend that I only do this because I’m thinking about how the products will look in flatlays, though that isn’t entirely true. Even before I was a blogger, I was purchasing products merely because of their aesthetically pleasing looks. Some of these purchase worked out well for me, whereas others have not. Today I thought I would share some of these items with you all in the hopes that you can relate to this same experience.

Benefit’s POREfessional Face PrimerThis is the first high-end product that I bought for its appearance, though, fortunately, I only bought the travel-size version. As soon as I saw the POREfessional packaging, I immediately fell in love. If you can’t already tell from its presence on my blog, Tiffany blue happens to be my favorite color. Combined with the cute pinstripes and the fun little graphic, this seemed like the perfect product for me. I ended up going against my better judgement and buying it right away. I guess I somehow got it in my brain that nothing that pretty of a color could be bad. Unfortunately, that logic didn’t pan out. If you read my products I’ll never buy again post, I really didn’t care for this product. To be fair, I’m not a big face primer person, but I didn’t like the consistency of the POREfessional at all. It made my face feel slick and oily and didn’t dramatically change the way that my makeup looked. Beautiful product, but poor results.

Too Faced’s Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette– Although my main reason for wanting the Chocolate Bar Palette was for its and fun style and sweet smelling shadows, I genuinely am still happy with this purchase. The eyeshadows in this palette are long-lasting and pigmented. It’s a lot different than any other palette in my collection, which is perfect for days when I want to experiment with eyeshadow. Plus, the shadows smell just as great as you would expect.

Benefit’s Gimme Brow Volumizing Eyebrow Gel– Another Benefit product but this one had very different results. I was exciting to try Benefit’s Gimme Brow because I had never tried a brow gel before. Even if I’m running late and don’t have time for a full face of makeup, brows are a necessity for me. This seemed like a wonderful product to quickly swipe on before heading out the door and it turned out to be exactly that. Although it’s not as precise as an eyebrow pencil, it manages to fill in sparse areas, giving you that fuller brow look. It was definitely one of my more impulsive purchases and I worried that it would be gimmicky, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised.

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lip Balm– While this wasn’t an expensive purchase, but it was a random one nonetheless. I picked this lip balm up on a total whim last year. I had a gift card to Walmart that I had been meaning to spend, so I ran back to the makeup section and decided to buy this little product because I liked the rosy color of the tube. Within a few weeks, this balm had become a must-have of mine. It feels moisturizing, smells nice, and gives off a subtle color. It’s actually one of the reasons that I find myself gravitating towards L’Oreal products when I’m buying makeup at the drugstore. It’s great finding quality products for low prices.

Have you ever purchased a product for its packaging?

Sincerely,

  1. This is such a relatable post haha I can totally think of a few products I got just for the packaging. The Tarte Cosmetics Toasted palette for example. I was in between that one and UD Naked Heat, but ended up choosing toasted instead cause it just looked a lot cuter.

  3. Benefit definitely always kills it with their packaging! I have definitely been tempted to buy things that I knew I wouldn’t like. For example the Fenty Galaxy palette. The packaging is gorgeous, however I have no interest in a palette that has all shimmers. Luckily, I stopped myself 😉

  4. While I try to avoid impulsive shopping as much as possible sometimes it is impossible to resist cute packaging! I would love to try that eyebrow gel as I have been looking for one for a while, so it’s great to know you had a positive experience:)
