Editing blog photos is still relatively new to me, but it’s something that I’ve recently realized is extremely important. The first time I tried editing my blog photos was just a few months ago, and I absolutely hated the way it made my pictures turn out.
But I continued seeing so many of my favorite bloggers rave about how important editing photos was to them, so I decided to give it another go. I experimented with a couple of different photo editors and used a variety of tools until I found an editing method that I actually liked. It’s a very simple process. In fact, it’s only two steps. But I can’t tell you how much better I feel about my photos after I’ve done it. I’m definitely on board with editing now.
The photo editor that I use is BeFunky. A lot of bloggers use this program because a). there’s a free version, b). it’s user-friendly and c). it gives you a really nice finished product. You don’t have to know a lot about photography or editing in order to use BeFunky, which is perfect for amateurs like me, and it doesn’t cost you anything. I’ve been using the free version for several months now and so far I’m really happy with it.
Anyways, as I mentioned, my photo editing process is comprised of only two steps. I think it makes my pictures cleaner, clearer, and overall more professional looking, but it doesn’t take me hours to do. I don’t do this with every single photo I take, but if I’ve got one that could use a little extra touch-up, these are the two steps that I follow.
Firstly, when I go into the photo editor, I select the color tab. I then grab the saturation bar and move it up slightly, depending on how the colors in the photo look. If my photo is really bright, I tend to use more saturation. It gives a nice contrast between the whiteness of the background and the colors of the photo’s focus objects.
Secondly, I head into the editor’s exposure tab. A lot of bloggers like using the brightness tool, but I generally prefer turning up the highlights. This helps lighten the darkest parts of the photo and overall creates a more uniform picture.
Those are the steps I take to editing my photos! It’s super easy, right? I love how simple this process is because it lets me get a lot of photos edited in one sitting. While it isn’t the most sophisticated strategy, it definitely gives my photos a drastic improvement.
Overall, the most important thing I’ve learned about photo editing is that everyone has different opinions on what looks good and what doesn’t. It takes a lot of trial and error to find a method that best suits you. If you’re looking to edit your photos, I highly recommend heading to BeFunky and playing with the different features until you stumble upon something you’re completely happy with.
Do you edit your blog photos?
Sincerely,
Helpful! Thank you 🙂
Do you think it also depends on the camera you use as well? I’ve just ordered a new camera as I feel that photo quality is important too. I will be sure to give Be Funky a go though! X

Yes, this is me all day every day! It is so time consuming, but worth it being that your pictures are part of the brand you are creating around your blog. I had been using old iphone photos for many of my posts, and saw that my blog started growing so much faster when I switched to using my DSRL and editing my photos.

I have never used Be Funky, but I’m definitely going to give it a try.
For larger photos that need really specific editing, I use an open source program called GIMP. It takes a minute to get used to all its functions, but it is amazing for adding texture back into skin, editing out unwanted background objects, getting really OCD about colouring. I would check it out if you’re in the mood for more traditional photoshop work. I use it mainly for individual photos that just need that extra attention.

I use Pixlr to resize and crop my photos. That’s basically all I do to them! It’s an extension on my Chromebook and very easy to use.

Yes, I always edit my photos, not just for my blog, but also for anything, like Instagram or Facebook. For that, I usually use VSCO or Lightroom. And by VSCO, that means I often use my phone to edit photos. It’s because it’s simple and the filters are great for my blog photography. I like your photos though, especially the properties that you usually add.

I’ve definitely learned to appreciate the highlight tool! Sometimes turning up the brightness kind of clouds the whole picture and I think the highlight is much more controlled! I’m definitely going to give BeFunky a try, since my favorite editor PicMonkey (which auto-adjusts your pictures brightness and what not for you) now makes you sign up to save your pictures!
