I’m the worst when it comes to hair. I go through phases where I’m convinced I’m going to style it consistently, but after a few days of flat-ironing or curling, I return to my lazy ways. It isn’t one of my best habits, and it definitely makes me a sucker when it comes to products that claim to offer quick and easy hair styling solutions. It’s like falling for an infomercial—you know it can’t possibly be as good as it seems, but you’re curious nonetheless. 

When people started buzzing last year about the Dyson hair dryer last year, claiming it could cut your hair drying time in half while leaving shiny and frizz-free, I was really tempted to buy it. Then, I saw the price tag. Four hundred dollars for a hair dryer? Yeah, no thanks. 

So I went with the next best thing: the Revlon hair dryer, a one-step tool that claims to have the power of a dryer and volume of a styler. I bought this dryer/brush last April, after I saw reviews saying it creates the look of a blowout without a lot of effort. At sixty dollars, the tool seemed much more reasonably priced than the Dyson one. 

Now that I’ve been using the dryer for almost a year, I thought I’d share my experience. 

My hair 

Before I get into the review, here’s a few things to know about my hair. It’s thick, frizzy, and takes forever to dry. Like, seriously. Any time I leave my hair to air dry, I can count on it being wet for at least several hours afterward. My hair has a little wave to it, but it’s mostly straight. 

The dryer 

First, I want to say this tool is definitely on the bulkier side. When I initially opened it, I was surprised by the size and worried it would be difficult to hold while styling my hair. (Anyone else’s arms get tired after a few minutes, lol?!) Fortunately, once I started using it, I discovered the tool wasn’t that heavy. It’s really easy to work with, so don’t panic if you get it and it’s not what you expect. 

The dryer operates on three settings: high, cool, and low. I tend to stick with high and cool, though some might prefer the low setting if they don’t want the heat on the back of their neck for a long time. I use the cool setting once I’m finished styling to smooth out my hair and hold it in place. I don’t know if it actually does all that much, but it’s the routine I’ve gotten used to, so I’m sticking with it.  

Consensus 

I love this tool! Not only is it easy to use, but it makes my hair look like I’ve just stepped out of the salon, and I only spend 10 to 15 minutes on it. Here’s what my hair looks like on a normal day compared to how it looks after I’ve used the dryer.

As someone who doesn’t care for styling her hair, it’s so convenient to have something that makes my hair look good without me having to put in much effort. Plus, I don’t have to deal with the hassle of using both a dryer and a circle brush. I really love the way it turns out and would definitely consider the dryer to be a worthwhile investment.
