OK, how exactly do I blog about fashion anymore?

“I think I’ve worn this sweater three times this week already.”

If you haven’t asked yourself some variation of this question over the last year, good to you. But also, like, how?!

One of the strangest parts of coming back to my blog has been trying to decide how to approach the fashion component.

When I started blogging back in 2016, I had no idea what I was going to write about. I registered a domain name and told myself I would figure it out as I went along. Over the years, my blog became a mixed bag of topics, ranging from makeup reviews, to productivity tips, to random thought storms I needed to get off my chest, but fashion was the constant thread of almost all my posts.

In the last year I was actively posting, I hardly put up anything that didn’t relate to fashion. I’d fallen into a steady routine of putting together outfits and scouting out new locations to shoot photos. I loved the creativity and self expression that came with fashion blogging. And I felt like it allowed me to show more of myself on Currently, Lately than I had in the past.

When the pandemic hit, it completely changed the way I look at a lot of things, including fashion. Obviously with no reason to leave the house on a consistent basis, I did what most people did: stopped dressing up. Aside from a couple occasions where I got bored enough to style outfits, I spend most of my days wearing mismatched combinations of sweatpants and T-shirts. My go-to “look” at the moment is a pink sweatshirt that says “Sarasota, Florida” that I pair with red joggers. Not exactly high fashion, if you can’t tell.

Though I’ve gotten used to the comfy outfits that have become my regular uniform, they certainly put me in a weird place as a fashion blogger. I still could come up with outfits to post, as I’m certain many fashion bloggers have, but I’m struggling with the idea of writing about fashion when it’s virtually been the last thing on my mind recently.

I like my blog to be a place where I can talk about what’s interesting me, and I feel like there will be a disconnect between me and my content if I try to make fashion related posts. That isn’t to say that fashion will no longer be a part of my blog, but I simply don’t know how to be a fashion blogger right now.

To summarize, I hope you don’t mind if fashion takes a backseat for a little while. I have a lot of other ideas I’m really excited to explore on here, and I can’t wait to share them 🙂

Sincerely,

Paige

  1. Just found your gorgeous blog and I’m so glad I did Paige! I think, in a way, lockdown had the opposite effect on me. I’ve always identified as a minimalist and up until a few years ago, had an incredibly pared down closet. More time at home suited me just fine as I’m more introverted but it gave me a lot of time to think about how much I express myself through fashion. It’s an extension of who we are, wearable art that tells a story of time, experience, religious belief, values, era, personal style and so much more. I missed the simple act of going out in a power outfit and feeling my very best self. I’d describe my style as Audrey Hepburn like. She is such an incredible style icon and I learnt so much through research I did for a post on her life and fashion lessons the other day! She was a generous philanthropist and did many years of aid work. All things I wouldn’t have realised otherwise!

Here in Sydney life feels about as normal as it possibly can. For a good month our covid count online actually disappeared. We had a good long streak where we were covid free. The count has come back now and risen slightly but I’m immensely grateful for the increased freedom. I get to wear pretty dresses, red lipstick and carry around elegant handbags now! I love my florals and neutrals as much as ever but have gotten into a bohemian style lately too.

    1. Thank you so much, Maryam! Audrey Hepburn is one of my favorite style icons as well. Her style is so timeless, and she did so many great things in her lifetime 🙂 Thanks so much for reading!

  2. I absolutely don’t mind! I think blogs evolve over time and we just have to modify as our lives evolve. In a few months, you’ll like return to more of your fashion posts.
