Hey…it’s me again

I should start this out by admitting that until last week, I wasn’t sure whether I’d ever write this post, or any other for that matter. It’s been three months since I last blogged, and in that time I toyed with the idea of making this break permanent. Of course, given that I’m writing this now, I obviously didn’t make that choice.

It’s often said that the more time you spend away from something, the harder it becomes for you to go back to it. After a three-month hiatus from this blog, I can safely say I agree. It feels strange at first, when an old habit disappears from your routine. But you adjust after a while, and that habit loses its familiarity.

As the weeks went by, I got used to not blogging. I missed it, but I didn’t feel a need to come back to it. A lot of factors contributed to this break, but I think the biggest one at play was my internal dilemma of quality versus quantity. The last few months were busy for me, which left me with significantly less time to work on the blog. The way I saw it, I needed to choose between writing posts I wasn’t completely happy with, or not writing at all.

hey it's me

hey I'm back

hey I'm back-2

I never want to do things half-heartedly on here, so I thought it would be best not to blog. Looking back at it, I feel like it was the right decision. Anything I would’ve written between October and December would’ve sucked. It would’ve been done with, like, 30% effort, and I probably would’ve gone back-and-forth about whether it was even worth posting. Ultimately, I would’ve been writing posts for the sake of writing posts, an idea that seems totally ridiculous when you consider that this blog is supposed to be a creative outlet. Can you even call something an outlet if you’re forcing yourself to do it?

To sum things up, I was busy. Busy enough that I didn’t think I could commit to a blogging schedule and stick to it. Were there instances when I could’ve found the time to write a post? Probably. But I also kind of dreaded writing this post—the hey-guys-sorry-I-randomly-disappeared-for-the-hundredth-time post.

Before I took this break, I felt like I was starting every.single.blog explaining why I hadn’t been on for a few weeks. I was annoying myself, to be honest. And if I couldn’t find some consistency in both my posting schedule and the quality of my posts, I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep going.

However, bringing it back to a point I made earlier: I missed blogging. I wanted to come back, but I had no idea how to do it, or if I could even make the time. Although it got easier not to blog, I still wanted to figure out a way to incorporate it in my life again. Right now, my plan is to post once a week. That seems like the most doable schedule for me at the moment, but I’ll keep you updated if anything changes.

Thank you so much for sticking around! I’ve missed being part of this community, and I’m excited to be back.

What’s something that’s been going on with you lately?

  1. Welcome back!! I’m really happy to read you again! 😊 As someone who has the worst blogging schedule ever (or should I say a non-existent blogging schedule), I know how hard it is to “get back at it” !
Take your time and don’t feel like you owe us some explanations because you couldn’t blog, it’s okay to take your time with it without forcing you into it 😘
