Like any creative pursuit, fashion delivers its ups and downs. There are mornings when I wake up with a desire to pull something stylish together and then there are other mornings when all I want to do is throw on the first thing I find. The latter days can be a drag for me, especially as a fashion blogger.
Not only is fashion a source of enjoyment for me, but it’s also a big part of my ability to create here on the blog. Without it, I don’t have much to go off, which leaves me feeling lost and unmotivated. However, this feeling isn’t reserved for fashion bloggers. Anyone who loves fashion knows how irritating it can be to suddenly feel a lack of excitement over their clothes.
Recently, I went through one of these spells. While it was deeply frustrating, a part of me is glad it happened because I feel more confident about how I can dig myself out of them in the future. Here are a few of my key takeaways:
#1: T R Y S O M E T H I N G N E W
By now, you probably know my philosophy is this: When you aren’t feeling inspired, try something new. I get bored easily. If I don’t change things up every now and then, I feel unmotivated + creatively stunted. It’s the same way with fashion, and I think it’s the reason I’ve never been able to fully commit to a specific style. If my wardrobe is boring me, I take risks. It’s the most effective way to get my creative juices flowing.
#2: O R G A N I Z E
In general, I like to think of myself as an organized person. But when it comes to my closet…well, I suppose that’s another story. For as long as I can remember, my closet has been a disorganized mess. No matter how many times I’ve tried to clean it out, it’s always ended up reverting to its state of chaos. Nevertheless, I still find cleaning it out to be a necessary process because–most of the time–I discover long-buried pieces. Whether it’s a cardigan that fell off its hanger or a skirt that’s been tucked beneath a pile of clothes, the items I stumble upon during these cleanings provide me with bursts of excitement. Even if I don’t find anything, organizing my clothes gives me the chance to look through my entire closet, which can be helpful when trying to create new outfits. I will see two items I otherwise would have never thought to put together and suddenly have a new look on my hands.

When you’re trying to get out of a fashion rut, Pinterest should be your best friend. It’s no secret that this social media platform can be a useful source of inspiration. From outfit ideas to easy ways to spruce up your wardrobe, Pinterest is bound to have something that makes you want to delve back into fashion. I love to scroll through my old pins + see what has inspired me in the past. It doesn’t always work, but it’s a good starting point, especially if I have nowhere else to go.

I often find that the times I feel the least inspired by my wardrobe coincide with the times I am not using my accessories. Jewelry can be easy to overlook, especially when you’re in a rush, but it can make a huge difference if your clothes aren’t inspiring you. Adding a bold statement necklace, a fun pair of earrings or a colorful handbag to an otherwise simple outfit can spice it up + make it feel more special. Open your jewelry box and give your favorite accessories a chance to shine. Who knows? You might find an old piece that suddenly reinvigorates your love for fashion.

If you’re really struggling to come up with new outfits, have a specific favorite look you can always rely on. For me, it is my go-to formula. I did an entire post about that a couple of months ago (which you can check out here) but here’s the cliffnotes: I put on a black-and-white top and then add one element of color. It’s a simple, reliable, foolproof method that I know I can always default to, even when I am not feeling particularly fashionable.
Well, those are some ways I spark inspiration with my wardrobe! I’m off to edit some photos and then watch Netflix. Thank you so much for reading!

Great post! It happens to me a lot to be bored of my clothes and I quickly feel like I have nothing to wear that truly makes me happy…! To get out of this, either I buy one new piece to add in my wardrobe (recently I bought a jean), either I use some accessories (I have a ton of big earrings) !
