I don’t think I know how not to be a blogger anymore

I’m not quitting blogging.

As I’m looking over the title of this post, I realize it may sound that way, and I feel like I need to clear things up. In no way, shape or form am I quitting this blog. Nope. No clickbait from me.

Anyway, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, I want to dive into today’s topic: blogging. More specifically, life without blogging, which is something I haven’t experienced in a while.

I published my first post here on Currently, Lately in August 2016, and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. While I possessed a general, surface-level understanding of what blogging was, I didn’t actually know how it worked. I opened up WordPress, followed the steps to creating a site,  and wrote my brief but cringe-inducing first post (which, for the record, is now private, in case you were thinking about scrolling back to try and find it). And after finishing these steps, I was left wondering: well, what do I do now?

Thinking back on this moment of confusion and uncertainty, I can’t help but laugh because, as I’ve come to understand through over two years of blogging, there never is a minute when I don’t have something to do for my blog. Whether it’s writing posts, replying to comments or keeping up with the latest from my favorite bloggers, blogging has me completely and utterly occupied.

Which, for the sake of clarity, I genuinely don’t mind. I love working on my blog, and I love the fact that I can always find something to work on for it. Blogging is something I’m passionate about. I would do it every day if I had the opportunity.

However, what I find particularly interesting about it is that I don’t think I remember how to go about life sans blogging. I’ve become so acquainted to it that I’m unsure of what I would do if it was no longer there. Considering there was a point in time not too long ago when I only had the slightest semblance of an idea of what blogging was, I think it’s pretty mind-boggling.

What do you do in your free time if you don’t have content to plan, objects to photograph, and posts to write? Even when I’m taking breaks from my blog, I’m still thinking about it and looking for inspiration everywhere I go. (Seriously. Since starting my blog, I don’t think I’ve been able to go into T.J. Maxx once without glancing through the notebook and planner section for potential blog props).

Honestly, what was I up to before I started my blog? I haven’t the slightest idea. All in all, I think blogging has not only made me use my spare time more wisely, but has also forced me to see the value of it. Every moment we have to ourselves is an opportunity to do something we love. Blogging makes me appreciate those moments more frequently.

Bloggers, do you remember what it was like to not be a blogger?

  1. Oh, I can’t remember who I was before I started blogging. I mean, I’m trying to remember, but I can’t.

Blogging seems to have infected me somehow. Like, there’s this feeling of addiction… I’m always thinking of my blog, even when I’m not writing content. And like you, I spend most of my “free” time seeking inspiration for post ideas.

Funny enough, even when I choose to have some ME time and do nothing related to blogging, stories, blog post ideas and stuff like that would still find their way into my head.

    I think it’s a curse we can’t escape. 😂
    A curse we should embrace.

  2. I relate to this so much! I don’t even know what life was like before without blogging, I’m always thinking about content and thinking “this might be good for photos” haha! Its my favourite hobby that blends writing and photography! thanks for this post<3
