My Morning Routine

a planner and a cup of coffee

Over the past several months, I’ve really come to love mornings.

By nature, I’ve always been a night owl. However, realizing that I operate more productively on a morning schedule, I decided to start waking up earlier.

I’ll admit it was a struggle at first. But as time has progressed, I’ve genuinely come to love the mornings. And I think one of the main things that has led to this turnaround has been getting myself into a routine.

I really like the routine I’ve developed. Routines in general are enjoyable to me. Having that sense of comfort and consistency has made the whole process of waking up early much easier. And ultimately, it makes getting up a thing to look forward to rather than a thing to dread.

Admittedly, when I first wake up, I spend about ten to fifteen minutes reading the news and scrolling through social media. It’s not the most productive way to kick off my morning, but it gives me some time to wake up and catch up on anything I may have missed while I was sleeping. Which is usually a lot. The amount of information that you miss from staying off the internet for six to eight hours is kind of mind-boggling.

After I’ve completed my morning social media browse, I’ll usually get up and go through the general morning stuff: brushing my teeth, washing my face, moisturizing. Recently, I’ve been loving this peeling gel from Dr. Peter Thomas Roth that I got in a Sephora Play a couple months back.

The moisturizer I use changes frequently, so it’s hard for me to say what a typical morning would be like. But one of my usual go-tos is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. I’ve been using this stuff for years, and it has always done wonders for my skin.

While I let my moisturizer soak in, I’ll go fix myself a cup of coffee. My typical cup will consistent of Eight O’Clock Bean Columbian Peaks, Torani’s Vanilla Syrup, milk, and lots of ice. I’ve always been an iced coffee person. Even in the winter, you’ll find me drinking from an ice cold mug.

Once I’ve got my coffee, I’ll take about ten minutes on my laptop. I’ll check my email, respond to blog comments, and evaluate everything I have to do that day. I go through my planner and jot out a brief to-do list, which sort of serves as my guide for the day. I keep it close with me, and I cross out things as I go along. It helps me stay organized and prevents little things from slipping through the cracks.

I would say this time is probably my favorite part of the morning. As someone who relies on organization to get things done, this is the perfect way for me to stay organized. Setting aside these few minutes really sets the tone for the rest of my day. And it makes even the busiest or most overwhelming days seem less chaotic.

If I have a little extra time, I’ll start working on a blog post. Mornings tend to be my most productive point of the day, so I like to do as much as possible. So, if I get the opportunity to work on something, I’ll take.

After that, my morning routine becomes pretty standard. I’ll pick out an outfit, do my makeup, and ultimately get myself ready for whatever needs to be done.

However, I find that having that time for myself before I actually need to get going helps me a lot. Mornings used to be so hurried for me. I’d always be racing to get things finished and out the door on time. But since I started implementing this new schedule, I’ve found mornings to be quite peaceful.

Well, thank you so much for reading!

  1. My routine is a bit cramped up and needs readjustment. When I wake up every morning, I wash up and start preparing for my job. I’m to resume very early so there’s no time to check my social media accounts.

When I get to the school where I teach, I use the few minutes I have before my first class to visit my social media accounts and catch up on new trends and topics. Then I open my WordPress reader app to read the blog posts that I haven’t read yet.

After all that, I make a quick to-do list to keep track of time and stay organised, then I go to have my first class.

Usually, I won’t be chanced to do anything other than teaching until around five in the evening when I close for work. It is that time I focus my attention to anything related to my blog.

It’s a busy and frustrating life that I’m living. 😒

    1. I also like to make to-do lists in the morning. It’s definitely hard to keep track of things without them! And I tend to do the majority of my blog stuff later in the day as well. It’s hard to find time for it during the day!

  2. I’m glad one of us has figured out how to become a morning person. I’m attempting by starting my wake up process earlier than I normally would. I’m hoping that with the winter coming, I can start getting up when my first alarm goes off and do some yoga in the morning to wake up. Slow progressions right?

    1. It’s definitely a hard thing to do! Getting up as soon as your first alarm goes off can really help. I usually have a few set in the morning, and I’ve found that the more I sleep through, the less motivated I feel to get up haha! And yoga sounds like such a great way to start the day!

  3. I really like this post! I need to get in the habit of doing a morning routine. I’m usually always rushing and running out the door because I love sleep so much hahaha But it’s a great start to your day if you make time to do a couple things before you head out

  4. I feel like it’s good to wake up and scroll through social media and the news! I either wake up and look through Instagram or put on the NPR Up First podcast because I need something that’s more tempting than sitting around and wishing I could go back to bed!
