If you’ve just read the title of this post, you’re probably wondering one thing:
Blogging break? When did you take a blogging break? Haven’t you been posting, like, four days a week?
Let me just quickly preface this by clarifying that yes, I have been posting four days a week, but, yes, I have also been on a blogging break. I know I’ve talked about this in the past before, but for those of you who don’t know, I write a lot of my content in advance. Creativity and motivation aren’t in endless supply, so when I feel particularly energized I write up as many posts as I can. I’ve found that it makes getting through blogging lulls a whole lot easier because you still have things to publish.
Now that I’ve cleared that up, let me say that while I’ve been present on the blog both here and on social media, I haven’t actually sat down to write a post in about a month. It’s the longest I’ve ever gone without writing a post in my two years of blogging, and it felt completely and totally strange. I’m so accustom to writing posts and taking photos and all that fun stuff that I didn’t realize how weird it would be to not do it (spoiler alert: so, so, so, so, so weird).
This break was semi-intentional. I wanted to take a week or two off so I could brainstorm some new post ideas, as well as figure out some technical stuff that I’ve been putting off for ages (*cough* *cough* going self-hosted). However, I didn’t expect that break to morph into an entire month. Things came up. I got busy. And the longer I went without blogging, the harder it became not only to find time to write, but to find things to write about.
Being on this break made me realize that sometimes the only way out of a creative funk is to just sit down and force yourself create something. Which is what I did the other day. Instead of sitting around, waiting for inspiration to strike, I told myself to get going on something. Anything. Whatever I could get down in writing.
While I’ll admit the process didn’t result in my best post, it did result in a post, which given the circumstances felt like a major feat. Having not written a single blog post in nearly thirty days, I finished this one feeling more excited and more motivated than I had in forever, and it taught me something important.
You see, what I’ve discovered is that your first post back doesn’t have to be your absolute best work, and you don’t have to feel super inspired while writing either. But it’s a necessary step in the right direction.
Getting back into blogging is like getting back into any old habit. It’s challenging at first because it’s been so long, but eventually you regather your bearings and figure things out.
I’m happy to say the longest blogging break I’ve ever taken has officially come to an end. I’ve got a list of post ideas written in the back of my planner, and I’m ready to start making a dent in them.
That being said, I really want to thank you all for sticking with me, even if you didn’t know I was dealing with this little rut. Reading and responding to comments was one of the only ways I still felt connected to blogosphere when I was feeling creatively uninspired, and it definitely gave me the motivation to get back to blogging 🙂
Have you ever taken a long break from blogging? If so, what did you learn from it?
I quit my blog and started over.
It was hard to do but good. I’m starting over writing as myself and not as who I thought people wanted me to be.

The most I’ve taken off without posting was one week where I didn’t post at all, but I am a fan of pre writing content when I go on holidays. I took a month off when I was in Peru last year but it was so stressful writing a months worth of content in just a few weeks. Sometimes we all need that break though. Welcome back! xx

It definitely is stressful pre writing a lot of stuff in advance, and I totally agree that a break is necessary sometimes! And thank you 🙂

OMG this is so relatable to me at the moment. I am on a 10 days break too! And surely I have gathered some great ideas for my next blog posts during this off period! It is therapeutic I feel😊

I have just come back from a 2 month blogging break because I was so busy that I didn’t want to force myself to write a post that was half hearted. I missed it so much but struggled with inspiration. I put my first post up a couple of days ago and now all I want to do is write. I’m so glad I’m not the only one that feels like this! xo

I can relate to that so much! I hate the idea of forcing myself to write something if I don’t feel like I have the proper time to develop it. So happy to hear that you’re feeling inspired again! 🙂

I can really relate to this post, I took a blogging break for ages whilst I was in my final year of uni and while I felt a bit strange when I came back to writing at first, I feel like I’m back in the swing of things now. Glad to see you’re back in the blogosphere, keep going! xx

So glad your back! I quit my blog a year ago but decided that I want to get back into it, I have learnt that bloggers are human and not to be afraid when taking a break. Over my long break I came up with lots of content ideas and now have improved my blog so much!

It can definitely be tough balancing blogging with everything else. I’ve definitely found that out these past months. I’m happy to hear you’ve found your inspiration once again! Sometimes just jumping headfirst into it is the best way to go!

I think this was a very interesting post and I appreciate your honesty here, I think we all hit a wall or a rut at any point in life as humans, we aren’t perfect and sometimes we just need a break or maybe run out of content to make.. as a blogger you are constantly creating new content. It can be hard, or challenging! I actually blogged a couple years ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed doing it. Then, I had other things in life come up, I chose to put blogging to a complete halt. I shut down my blog, and everything. I regret it. Now, I’m back to it, I feel so proud of my blog so far, I have revamped it and I’m back creating!

Omg I also schedule a bunch of posts when I’m feeling creative and then go ages without writing despite the constant posting! Reading this was so weird, it was like talking to myself haha

I never had a very long break from blogging but I had sometimes to not skip a posting day because i was not inspired. But I too schedule many posts at once when i feel creative and then nothing for a few weeks!

I just started blogging recently and can totally see how a break could turn into a long break than I had planned. Finding content can be a challenge.

We all need a break from a hobby we love eventually – and without feeling guilty too. Otherwise we could get burnt out by it and simply lose the love we have for them. Glad you’re able to come back to the blogging world with your batteries recharged!

It’s always good to take a blogging break – that way your creative vibes are flowing stronger than ever, rather than pushing out posts with an overwhelmed emotion. Welcome back from the little break – hope you’re feeling better than ever. Congrats on getting self-hosted!
