How to Style A Denim Jacket

We all knew this post was inevitably going to happen, right?

I wear denim jackets far too often for this not to be a post.

For those of you who are new or otherwise unaware, I became completely obsessed with denim jackets last April. I basically made it my life’s mission to find myself the perfect denim jacket. And after months of scouring the sales racks of every store on the face of the earth (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration), I finally succeeded.

In fact, as luck (or relentless persistence) would have it, I ended up finding two perfect denim jackets, which has basically caused my denim jacket obsession to spiral out of control.

That being said, today I thought I would do a cumulative post of sorts, sharing some of the different ways I have styled my denim jackets. These are all looks I’ve previously shown on the blog, but I like the idea of compiling them into a look book.

Oversized with shorts

Jacket* (similar): Tractr

I LOVE the look of a denim jacket and high-waisted shorts. It’s a cool look for summer, and the jacket provides a little bit of warmth in case the weather gets chilly. My typical shorts-and-denim ensemble consists of a pair of plain black shorts and a striped top. It’s nothing too fancy, which is perfect for casual days of shopping or hanging out around the house.

Dressed up

Jacket * (similar): Urban Outfitters

Necklace: Tiffany’s

Doing a complete 180 on what I just talked about, another one of my favorite ways to style a denim is to dress it up. Denim adds an interesting vibe to an otherwise typical dress. Here I have paired it with a flow-y mint green dress and my favorite silver necklace.

Denim and floral

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Dress: Derek Heart (same style different print)

Jacket (similar): Target

Shoes (similar): Charlotte Russe

Denim and floral is one of my absolute favorite combinations for at least a million reasons; however, if I were to narrow it down to just one, I would say that it’s because the juxtaposition of a dainty, elegant floral and a casual, slouchy jacket works SO incredibly well. This look I shared over the summer is the perfect example. The jacket sort of balances out the formalness of the rest of the outfit, making it great for both daytime and nighttime.

With circle skirts

OUTFIT DETAILS:

Top* (similar): Nasty Gal

Skirt* (similar): Boohoo

Jacket* (similar): Levi’s

A fun skirt is also a great thing to pair with a denim jacket. I came up with this look just a few weeks ago, and I’ve been wearing it nonstop ever since. I like the way the mustard yellow looks with the denim blue. The colors work really well together, creating a colorful and exciting look.

Well, those are a few of the ways I’ve styled a denim jacket! I hope you enjoyed reading, and I would love to hear about your favorite ways of styling denim in the comments.

Thank you for reading! 🙂

  1. I love how I’m seeing so many denim jackets being rocked right now. They’re great because they are versatile and can be styled in so many different ways. I feel like it’s more durable than other jackets because it still looks stylish even if it’s worn out (like how people wear worn out jeans XD).

  2. I love the first way to style a denim jacket. I recently bought an oversized denim jacket and since it became warmer outside I’ve constantly been wearing it with shorts. It’s just so comfy. x
