2018 Blog Resolutions (Update)

Hello! Hello!

As you may remember, at the beginning of the year, I made the decision to write new year’s resolutions for my blog. It’s been a few months since then, so today seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to reflect on those resolutions and see if I’ve kept up with them thus far.

As I said in the aforementioned post, I’m typically not a resolutions person. I feel like it’s so easy to get swept up in the idea of new year’s resolutions, and that you end up breaking down and totally abandoning them. I’d much rather make small, specific goals than new year’s resolutions.

However, in spite of my cynical attitude, I decided to go ahead and make them. Now, I’d like to look and see if I’ve been able to live up to the goals that I set for myself. A big reason why I dislike new year’s resolutions is that I feel like you don’t have to hold yourself accountable for them. Maybe doing this post will change that.

To recap, these are the resolutions I made for myself:

  • Invest in a quality camera
  • Daily blog for at least one month
  • Work on improving my social media
  • Blog about a wider variety of topics
  • Do more spontaneous blogging

As far as resolutions go, I think these ones were pretty good for me. My goal was to give myself resolutions that would challenge me to work harder without pushing me well beyond my capabilities. There’s a fine line between being ambitious and setting yourself up for failure, and I wanted to be sure to remain on the right side of that line. And while there’s still plenty of 2018 left, I think I did a relatively good job.

Invest in a quality camera – I haven’t fulfilled this goal yet, but I think I will soon. My current camera is old and rapidly deteriorating, so if I don’t get a new one soon, I’m going to end up going back to my iPhone for photos. Which would be perfectly fine. However, Currently, Lately is going to turn two this year, and I think that merits an upgrade.

I’ll let you all know as soon as I start shopping for a new camera. And if you have any advice for me, it would be much appreciated 🙂

Daily blog for at least one month – I haven’t completed this one either, though I really wasn’t planning to until closer to the end of the year. My hope is that I’ll do blogmas once again, though I’m going to have to plan it out a lot better than last year. By the end of it, I was having a hard time keeping up.

Work on improving my social media – I feel like my social media posting has seen a big improvement in 2018. I’m on all of the platforms a lot more consistently, albeit for FaceBook (which never has a chance), and I’m even posting on my Instagram stories a little bit more often. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep going with it throughout the rest of the year.

Blog about a wider variety of topics – This is somewhat of a vague, open-ended goal, though I think I’ve managed to get a jump on it. In the recent months, I’ve written a few pieces that are much different than what I’ve done in the past. Some of the ones I’m most pleased with are the post I wrote about wanting to be busy all the time, as well as the one I did about how people treat one another on the internet. It was exciting to explore topics that I hadn’t before, and I’d love to continue doing so.

Do more spontaneous blogging – Since I tend to stick to a posting schedule, I don’t spare a lot of time for spontaneous blogging. Most of my posts are written at least a couple weeks in advance. And while I find it de-stressing to have things scheduled ahead of time, sometimes I miss the excitement of writing and immediately publishing, especially when it’s a post about something I’m really passionate about.

This was probably my biggest resolution for the new year, and I think I’ve done it decently. I’ve made Sunday my spontaneous posting day, and it has given me back that sense of spontaneous creativity that I’ve been missing.

In conclusion, it seems I’ve done a semi-successful job of keeping up with my resolutions! I’m surprised, TBH, though really happy about it. Let’s hope the progression continues through the remainder of the year.

Thank you so much for reading!

  1. Great post! I’m all about goal-setting for productivity, so it was weird for me NOT to have a precise resolution this year. You’ve already made strides on 3 out of the 5 goals you mentioned… what was the key to your success? Hope that question isn’t too hard to answer! x

  2. I love the tagline for your blog 🙂 I am doing pretty poorly this year, despite my best intentions. My biggest one was not to quit blogging again (after my first attempt in 2016 failed spectacularly after a week), so at least that’s something 🙂 I hope you keep up with your resolutions!

  3. I think goals are always good as they set out your intentions for the year. Good luck if you do decide to daily blog – I struggle to come up with ideas to post weekly sometimes let alone daily!!! xx
