This will probably be the 300 billionth post about Aimee Song’s “Capture Your Style” out there in the blogosphere, but I figure there’s no harm in jumping on board.
If you’re unfamiliar with “Capture Your Style,” which I highly doubt, though I will indulge the possibility, it’s an Instagram how-to guide written by Aimee Song, one of the most popular fashion bloggers out there. In the book, Aimee breaks down her tips and tricks for building an Instagram following and developing a brand.
After seeing some many bloggers rave about this book, I decided to check it out for myself. I’m always looking to improve my photography skills, and seeing that I had an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket, it seemed like a cool thing to give a go. Today I thought I would share a short review of it.
“Capture Your Style” focuses on a lot of different Instagram branding topics, ranging from the composition of a photo to the caption. Aimee shed light on many of the techniques that she uses when she takes an Instagram photo, and it was interesting to see all the different things that go into her shots. I won’t spoil too much, but Aimee’s approach is not as simple as snap a photo and move on.
One of the things I liked the most about “Capture Your Style” was the emphasis that was placed on looking at the world around you for inspiration. Since reading the book, I’ve definitely been keeping my eyes peeled for cool locations to photograph, even when I’m just out and about. There’s a lot of inspiration to be found in the places you’re surrounded by, and this book really highlights the importance of that.
“Capture Your Style” doesn’t give you a hidden algorithm for growing your Instagram, so if that’s what you’re expecting, it may not be the book for you. However, if what you are in fact looking for is helpful advice for taking better Instagram shots and using the platform to its full extent, I recommend giving it a read. I enjoyed hearing about Aimee’s photo-taking strategies and took a lot away from what she had to say. This book isn’t going to take you from 0 to 100 overnight, but it contains practical advice for making the way you post on Instagram as effective as possible.
In conclusion, “Capture Your Style” is a fun, interesting read for any blogger or influencer out there looking to up their Instagram game (or Vero because apparently that’s a thing now).
Have a lovely day!
