I’m not a morning person.
I never have been. And I probably never will be.
But unfortunately for me (and all the other night owls out there), the world operates on an early morning schedule. Most jobs require you to be up and ready to take on the day at early hours of the morning.
I recently decided that I was going to try and get myself on an earlier sleep schedule. And since I made that decision, I’ve learned quite a bit about the advantages of waking up early. Today I thought I would share what I’ve learned. And hopefully if you’re thinking about changing up your sleep schedule, you’ll keep these in mind!
I’m far more productive
Despite not being a morning person, I have to admit that I’m significantly more productive on days that start early. I’m at my best right after I’ve had my first cup of coffee, and I’ve discovered that by capitalizing on that fact, I am able to get a lot more done in a single day.
I have more time for myself
Because waking up has made me more productive, I have been able to find a lot more time for myself later in the afternoons and evenings. This has been nice because it has allowed me to devote more time to things that I enjoy, such as running, blogging, and reading.
I have an easier time falling asleep
Getting work done earlier in the day also makes it easier for me to fall asleep, which is something I had a lot of trouble with before changing up my schedule. I’ve come to realize that by finishing the bulk of my workload early in the morning, I’m able to have more time to unwind later in the evening. Having that relaxation time makes me feel a lot more ready for sleep.
I get stuff done in advance
Another thing that waking up early has done for me is helped me get things done well in advance. I’ve never really been a procrastinator, but working on things in the early morning has put me even further ahead of schedule. I rarely (if ever) find myself panicking at the last minute because I didn’t get something done. And I never have to go through that terrible it’s-3am-and-I’m-working-on-something-I-should-have-done-weeks-ago scenario.
Anyway, those are just a few of the things I’ve come to enjoy about getting up earlier.
Thank you for reading! Until next time.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I do consider myself more or an early bird. Thanks to work, my body is normally wired to consider staying in bed till 7am as a sleep in haha! I do feel like I manage to get more things done during the day because of that 🙂

That’s so awesome haha! Hopefully someday I’ll be wired that way! It really does help with productivity!

I’m a night owl but I’m really trying hard not to be! On the days I do get up early I find myself with loads more energy throughout the day (strangely enough) but I never stick to this routine! I’m going to try really hard to this month though because I know how good it is for you – you’ve literally highlighted all the good positives that I’m going to focus on 🙂 x

I’m the exact same way, and I can tell you it really does help! The first couple weeks of it are kind of rough, but after that it gets much easier! 🙂

I did this in college. My first three semesters, I had no concept of time management. While I slowly got more productive, I wasn’t as productive as I wanted to be. I realized I’d always liked getting up earlier in the days, so my New Year’s Resolution was to wake up at 6am(ish) every day. I set myself a bedtime to follow this, and the first semester doing this was my first time getting on the Dean’s List, despite taking more classes, plus I had more time for myself! I kept up with this for most of my schooling. Now I get up at 5 for work, and it’s just a little too early…

It really does help so much with productivity! And having that extra free time is awesome. Getting up at 5 sounds like it would be tough!

I am such a night owl but there is something that feels great about getting up early and getting shit done! I know that if I have errands in town, I love being in shops early. It is just so quiet and calm – right up my street! Admittedly, when I’m at home, work gets me up very very early sometimes so I have a mixture of the two xx

I am a night owl by profession!

I’ve forgotten what I am… I do stay up at night a lot… But I also get up early for a morning run (since that suits me best)… But you’re right. At the end of the day, I’m more productive and I have time for myself too.

Waking up early is wonderful (but I say that because it’s easy for me). I love mornings and early afternoons.☀️🌷 —https://emilyryannblogblog.wordpress.com/

I’m so o o jealous you’ve been sleeping earlier. It’s such a bad habit but I can’t seem to bring myself to be in bed before 12am. And even now, it’s 12:56 am and here I am on wordpress… #studentproblems anyways, so happy for you!

Couldn’t agree more! I used to be the person who stayed up until 3am and woke up at midday (when my lifestyle could allow this of course). I take so much more better care of myself now that I wake up early and get things done. Thanks for this!

That’s awesome! It’s kind of crazy how some people work so much better at night and others work so much better in the morning, isn’t it?

I’m glad it’s started to help you 🙂 I’m lucky that I’m a morning person (I’m usually up and about for 8am at the latest!) but I’m normally asleep by 11pm 😂

I became a morning person by force. My kid’s bus comes way too early and going back to bed just makes me sleepy the rest of the day! I have found that I get more done now though so I guess its a decent trade off =-)

That’s kinda the way I feel about it! I’m not always super excited to wake up early, but I feel like I get so much more done when I do!

Great post! For me personally, I’m a night owl, but I prefer to be an early bird. I used to have my sleep schedule on tip top shape, but then I moved and now I go to bed at 3 or 4 AM. I love all the things you’ve found out from fixing your sleep. I’m the same way! When I wake up early, I find out I get so much more done than I do at night. Excellent job.

I’m def a natural night owl! I am currently struggling to get on a more structured morning schedule though lol. I agree – helps so much with getting more done in the beginning of the day :))

I feel I’m a bit of both, but I need my nanna nap in the middle of the day to function.. Though I’ve fine this hasn’t been cutting lately and been want to become a true early bird… But it’s autumn here and the days are getting colder and it’s hard to leave a warm bed….

Loved this post! I’m going to start getting up earlier so that I have time to read and blog-just like you mentioned. It’s good to know it will be easier to fall asleep as I normally don’t get tired until later. ❤

I seriously hate waking up early but there have been quite a few days lately where I’ve gotten up really early and I agree with everything you said. I think my favourite thing is when you get to like 2pm and you’ve already done so much!
