I got it, everyone.
The holy grail eyeshadow palette of all the holy grail eyeshadow palettes.
Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Modern Renaissance.
If you saw my let’s catch up post a couple of weeks ago, you might recall that I got the Modern Renaissance palette during my little blogging break at the end of 2017. In that post, I said I was planning to write a full review about the palette. And today, I’m going to do just that.
To begin, I suppose I should answer the question posed in the title: The ABH Modern Renaissance palette is without a doubt worth the hype. After reading so many glowing reviews about this palette, I thought it wouldn’t be possible for it to meet my expectations. But it did. In just about every category.
I’m sure you’ve all seen this palette at least once or twice before, but I figure I might as well give it a quick overview. The palette comes with 14 eyeshadows and a double-sided brush. I don’t normally like the brushes that come with palettes. I feel like the bristles on most of them are really rough and effective. But I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I don’t prefer it to any of my nicer brushes, but I think I’ll get some use out of it.
The eyeshadows are advertised as ranging from neutral to berry, and I would have to say that’s a pretty accurate description. The majority of the eyeshadows are matte. But there are three shimmery shades (“Antique Bronze,” “Primavera,” and “Vermeer”) as well. It’s a unique and versatile palette of colors, which gives you a lot of looks to play around with.
I think the versatility of this palette is what really makes this a standout for me. The way I see it, if I’m going to spend a lot on eyeshadow, I want to get the most for my dollar. And with these eyeshadows, I get exactly that. The colors work for both subtle, natural looks, as well as colorful, striking ones.
I’ve also come to love all the eyeshadows in the palette. But if I had to pick my top four, they would probably be “Burnt Orange,” “Buon Fresco,” “Antique Bronze,” and “Warm Taupe.”
One thing that blew me away the most about this palette was the pigmentation. These eyeshadows really show up. You don’t have to pack color in order for it to be noticeable. With just a little bit of blending, the eyeshadow you use will appear as it should.
Speaking of blending, these eyeshadows blend really well. (Not a great sentence, I know. But I couldn’t think of another verb that would work here.) I like blending a lot of the more vibrant shades into my crease, and they do so surprisingly well (and without losing their pigmentation, mind you).
The only compliant I have about this palette is that the design of the packaging causes eyeshadow fallout to become a bit messy at times. Other than that, I genuinely cannot think of a single thing wrong with this palette.
In consensus, I highly recommend checking the Modern Renaissance palette out if you haven’t already. The quality and versatility make it a worthwhile investment. And I can honestly say that it somehow managed to meet the impossibly high expectations I had for it.
Anyway, I’m off for a cup of coffee. Until next time.
Do you have the ABH Modern Renaissance palette?
