Monthly Goals: August 2017

Greetings everyone and hello August!

Sorry this is the first time you’re hearing from me this month, but as I mentioned in my post about my blogging schedule, I’ve got a lot going on at the moment. I’ve been planning out quite a bit of content these last couple of months, but I almost have it finalized. If you’re a regular reader here on Currently, Lately, then you might know how I am when it comes to wanting things to be a certain way and becoming frustrated if they aren’t. Scheduling and planning all of this content has been pretty overwhelming, but in a good way. I know that I’ll be much happier to have it written and ready to publish, especially since it will clear up time for me to work on other aspects of blogging. (*cough* *cough* the Pinterest account that I never go on).

This being my first post of the month, it should come to no surprise that it’s a monthly goals post. If you’re new here, I’ve been writing a monthly goals post at the start of every month of 2017 and it has really made me more focused and productive. This has definitely become one of my favorite blog posts to write. Whenever I think of big projects that I need to get done, I tell myself to add it to my next monthly goals post and find that it’s a lot easier to actually follow through with it. If you’re the planner/schedule/color coded to-do list type like me, it’s seriously a life changer. Establishing your priorities is the best way to get them started.

Anyways, August is already proving itself to be a hectic month for me. There are so many different things going on in my life, both exciting and nerve-wracking. Plus, my blog is hitting the one-year milestone in just a few days. With so many things keeping me busy, I decided that I needed to streamline my goals for the month. Normally I try to set four or five goals, but this month, I’m shooting for three. In goal-setting, I think it’s necessary to be realistic with yourself. If you want to get things done, you have to acknowledge what is actually doable. I don’t want to stretch myself too thin and reach for something that I know is doomed for failure. Three goals is the perfect amount for August.

I’m being super ramble-y today, aren’t I? I blame it on too much caffeine. I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, so I’m pumping myself with coffee as I type and I’m definitely starting to feel the effects. Let’s just dive into the goals before I go on another unnecessary blather.

1. Learn to hem

Fun fact: I don’t know how to sew or hem or knit or crochet or do anything that involves a needle and a string of thread. I took sewing lessons at one point as a kid, but if I remember correctly, I wasn’t very good. This normally wouldn’t be a big concern of mine, but I recently bought a new dress that needs a length adjustment. (When you’re only a little over five foot, it’s hard to find long dresses that don’t fall past your feet haha). Since I need to make this alteration, I thought it would be a good idea to learn how to hem myself. There are plenty of other things in my closet that could use a hem, so this seems like a good opportunity to figure out how to do it myself. I’m not sure how well it will work and I’m definitely worried about ruining the dress, but hopefully I’ll be able to do it. (Hopefully being the key word here).

2. Write, write, write

My mantra for this current month is the more blog posts I get written, the better off I am. I really want August to be a good post writing month for me. Whether it’s in terms of posts published or posts scheduled, my goal is to get as much done as I physically can. I like having content ready to go up in case I fall into a particularly busy period of time. The last thing that I’d want would be to be have stretches with no posts published when I could have written at least a couple of backups. Obviously we’re all different when it comes to post publishing and scheduling, but I think having a lot prepared will make me feel a little bit organized and put together. This is definitely my main priority this August.

3. Purchase some new books

I suppose this is more of a want than a goal, but I do want to add some new books to my collection. Not only do I love reading, I love owning books. It’s fun to put new novels on my shelves and loan them to friends and family when they ask for a book recommendation. I’m very excited to head to the bookstore to pick up some new goodies. Maybe while I’m there, I’ll also look for some cool notebooks or stationary to use as blog props. I’m always in need of new blog props, so a trip to the bookstore is a good way of knocking two things out at once. Multitasking for the win.

With that last goal, I’m going to end this post. Writing this took a lot less time than I anticipated, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do now. I’m still feeling jittery from all that caffeine, so maybe I’ll get started on goal two and work on another post. That being said, if there’s any sort of content you’d like to see now or in the near future, feel free to let me know. I’m always looking for new post ideas, so suggestions are super helpful. Plus, they give me a better idea of what type of posts you all prefer!

What are your goals for August?

Sincerely,

  1. Enjoy your book buying. I just recorded a Youtube video showing the books I got in July and it was fun to chat about my new books so I hope you have the same joy.
I also just posted my August goals. Had a few setbacks so I am late at everything, it seems, but I’m trying to catch up.
    happy weekend
