My Current Makeup Bag, Vol. II

Before you read this post, I’d just like to say that I’ve been experiencing a lot of technology troubles today, both with WordPress and my laptop. I think that I’ve fixed everything and that there’s nothing wrong with this post, but you never know with technology.

Way back in February, I did a post about my current makeup bag. Since writing that post, I’ve changed up my beauty routine quite a bit, so today I thought that I would write an updated version of that post. Ideally, I’d like to do a new version of this post every several months. I feel like it’s a fun way to update you all on what my current beauty routine is like and to share some of my new favorite products!

Firstly, I’d like to get into face products. As I mentioned in my June favorites post a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been really loving Tarte’s Tarteguard 20 Tinted Moisturizer recently in lieu of foundation. I got a sample of this product in my Sephora Play last month and I’m thoroughly impressed with the formula. Tarteguard is extremely smooth and lightweight. Unlike a lot of face products, it doesn’t feel cakey or dense. It has definitely been a staple of mine this summer, especially on hot or humid days when I all I want is hassle-free, lightweight coverage. I think that I might purchase the full-size version of this product at some point in the coming weeks.

For concealer, I’ve been using the NYX HD Photogenic Concealer Wand. This is a product that has come and gone from my makeup bag over the last couple of years. I love wand concealers. I think that they’re a lot less hassle than a tube or a pump. So, naturally, this is a product that I like to repurchase every now and then. It gives you pretty good coverage and it’s one of the less expensive concealers on the market. It’s something that I’ll certainly continue to use now and in the future.

Next up is pressed powder, which hasn’t changed since my last makeup bag post. I honestly think that I’m never going to deviate from the Rimmel London Matte Pressed Powder. This product does a really fantastic job of keeping my face shine-free all day, even in warm weather. I won’t go on about it too much though, because I know that I’ve praised it so many times before.

Things haven’t changed in the bronzer department either. I’m still using the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer. This is a good product if you’re looking for a subtle bronzer. It provides a little bit of dimension to whatever area of your face that you apply it to.

For highlighter, I’ve been using the Trestique Highlight & Perfect Multipurpose Stick. This is another item I tested out in Sephora Play and really enjoy for a day-to-day look. It’s a cream highlighter that gives off a soft, somewhat translucent shimmer. I like applying it to my cheek and brow bones. I think it looks very nice paired with the subtlety of the Too Faced bronzer. It isn’t something that I would go for if I wanted to create a dramatic or glowing look, but it suits my day-to-day style. Plus, the cream consistency is extremely blendable.

My holy grail eyebrow product is still the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, but I’ve been filling in my brows a little bit differently. Instead of using the product is fill in any sparse areas in my brows, I’ve been going for a fuller brow look. (If you’d like to see a more extensive post on how I do my eyebrows, let me know!) Anyways, having the spooly on the end of the pencil has really come in handy for creating bolder brows. It makes it so easy to go back and worth between brushing and filling. Once I finish filling in my brows, I sweep a bit of the Chella Beauty Eyebrow Defining Gel over them. This gel really helps hold the shape of my eyebrows together throughout the day without fading or rubbing off.

I’ve been keeping it pretty simple for eyeliner. I create a thin line on my upper lash line using the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner. This is such a fantastic liquid eyeliner. The pen is soft and smooth and incredibly easy to use. Then, I take the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil and create a short line on the corner of my lower lash line, which I smudge to get rid of the harshness. It’s a simple look that only takes a matter of minutes!

I haven’t been consistently using one mascara, which I think is because I haven’t found one that I really love. (If you have any recommendations, please let me know!)

The next product I’ve been using is the Milk Makeup Cooling Water. This is a gel that you apply to your face for hydration and, as you would expect from the name, cooling. It gives skin an instant boost of freshness. I only recently got it, but I already love it.

For lips, I’ve been relying on a tinted lip balm from Burt’s Bees in the shade “Hibiscus.” It’s a pretty standard lip balm. The color is very subtle and the formula is very moisturizing. It’s a really great drugstore pick up!

Anyways, that concludes this post! As always, thank you for reading. I’m off to relax for a bit. Getting this post together in spite of my computer troubles has been incredibly exhausting.

What products are currently in your makeup bag?

  1. The easier it is to use an eyeliner, the more likely I am to use it haha. One small request, in the future would you be able to provide photos of the individual products above their review? Just makes it easier to know what’s what though I know this can be time consuming. Great post!
