May is almost over, so today I want to share with you all a quick recap of the things I’ve been loving this month. I’ve done a pretty good job of mixing it up this month in terms of beauty. I’ve fallen in love with some old favorites of mine while simultaneously discovering brand new ones, so hopefully this will make for a fun post!
One beauty item that I’ve re-fallen in love with this month has been the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette. When I first started getting into high-end makeup, the Naked2 was one of the first palettes I picked out. It’s something that I used heavily during my early makeup days, but have used sporadically in the more recent ones. But for some reason this month, I suddenly remembered exactly why I loved this palette so much. The eyeshadows in the Naked2 are beyond gorgeous. They’re cool neutrals that look fantastic on any skin tone. Plus, the colors are very blendable. You don’t have to press harshly with your makeup brush to get the shadows to blend out, which makes it really easy to correct mistakes.
My favorite colors in the palette are “Stark,” (a matte peach) “Frisk,” (a matte taupe) and “Primal” (a dark matte taupe). I love using them because create super dimensional looks. They’re great for days when you want to go for something soft and subtle.
Another beauty favorite I’ve re-fallen in love with has been the NYX HD Photogenic Concealer. I’m going to be completely honest here and admit to you all that there’s really nothing special about this concealer other than the fact that it’s only $5. I like to pick this product up every now and again because it does a nice job of concealing dark circles. While it isn’t the most long-lasting concealer, it’s a good buy for its price. It also has a wand applicator, which is something I personally love in a concealer. It gives you a lot more control over the amount of product you use than those ones with pumps. I feel like I’m able to get all the product out of this tube thanks to the applicator.
This next item is a last-minute addition, but I recently picked up a sample of belif’s The True Cream Aqua Bomb and so far I absolutely love it. This cream is incredibly hydrating and instantly makes skin feel fresh and moisturized. I noticed a huge difference in the driest portions of my face immediately after I used it. The skin was noticeably more hydrated and smooth in appearance. The product doesn’t feel dense or heavy on the pores either.
On Sephora’s website, this product is listed as best for normal, oily, and combination skin. However, I have fairly dry skin and it worked well for me. I highly recommend picking up a sample of this stuff if you ever get the chance. I think I’ll be heading into Sephora in the next couple weeks to pick up a full-size container.
Another item I’ve been using a lot this month has been the Tarte Pearly Girl Teeth Whitening Pen. I did a review on this product just a few days ago, so I don’t want to go into too much detail. But I’ve used it so much this past week that I felt like I couldn’t write a favorites post without mentioning it. This pen has been really helpful to me in lightening the coffee stains on my teeth. It’s easy to use, perfect for travel, and creates no mess whatsoever. My teeth have seen a definite improvement since I started using this pen and I can’t wait to see how they look in the coming weeks.
This month, something totally shocking happened: I wore nail polish more consistently. Anyone who has been reading this for a while might know that I’m generally not a big nail polish person. It chips off my nails far too easily and I never want to take the time to touch them up. But I recently stumbled upon a nail polish that I really like, which is OPI’s “Suzi Without A Paddle.” The polish is a pretty shade of pastel blue that simply screams “springtime” to me. It’s a fun, striking color and it gives dull outfits that bright pop that they desperately need.
In hair, I’ve frequently been using the Not Your Mother’s Royal Honey & Kalahari Desert Melon leave- in conditioner*. This conditioner works specifically to protect and repair damaged hair. And while I don’t have super damaged hair, I do have dry hair. This product does a great job of giving texture and life to my hair. Plus, it has a really fantastic scent. If you don’t have damaged or dry hair, though, this probably isn’t the product for you. If my hair wasn’t dry, I think this product would have been really ineffective.
That concludes this addition of my favorites and pretty much sums up my month in terms of beauty and hair care. For a while, I stopped writing favorites posts, but I’ve really glad to be doing them again. I feel like they’re a fun way to summarize my month and I hope you enjoy seeing them again.
