4 Reasons You Should Get Yourself A Planner

Recently I came to the conclusion that there are two types of people out there: the ones who love planners and the ones who hate them. I’ve been on both sides of this spectrum, so I understand why there are a lot of people who dislike the idea of keeping a planner. But now that I’ve committed to using one, I genuinely can’t imagine ever going back. Have you ever heard someone say their planner is their whole life? I bet you they weren’t exaggerating. I’ve only regularly kept a planner for about six months now, but I can tell you that it’s pretty much become my life.

Anyways, if you’re someone hates planners, these are a few reasons why you might want to reconsider your stance. And if you’re someone who loves planners, hopefully you’ll be able to relate to some of my experiences.

#1: “I would do it but I always forget…”

Anyone else guilty of using this phrase when you realize you’ve forgotten to do something that you were supposed to have done? We all have that one thing that manages to slip our minds and never actually gets finished. For me, this used to be things like cleaning my makeup brushes and organizing my purse. And while these chores were never really critical, I was constantly annoyed by the fact that I could never remember to get them done.

Having a planner has made it a lot easier to remember all the things on my to-do list, no matter how big or how small they may be. Making note of the stuff that’s easy to forget helps jog your memory when you need it to. Ever since I started using a planner, I’ve been more consistent in my work habits and a lot less likely to let something slip.

#2: Plan, de-stress, repeat

If you’re someone with a stressful and, at times, overwhelming schedule, planning can make the busiest of weeks seem manageable. A lot of the time, I think we manage to work ourselves up about busy weeks because we’re looking at the big picture rather than one step after the other. My planner has really helped me see the meaning behind the phrase “divide and conquer.” When I break down a week’s worth of activities into miniature to-do lists, everything seems a lot less chaotic.

#3 Achieving long-term goals

This one somewhat coincides with the last, but having a planner is perfect for the person who worries about achieving their larger, long-term goals. If you’ve got a big project coming up, for example, it’s a lot easier to get it done if you’ve made checkpoints for yourself in your planner. For me, it is most convenient when it comes to blogging. If I know I won’t have much time to devout to blogging during a given week, chances are I’ll set myself a general guideline in my planner. This allows me to budget my time and get up blog posts even when I’m busy over long periods of time.

#4: Checking things off your to-do list

One of the greatest feelings is being able to physically check items off your to-do list. After I finish something, I love being able to look back and make note of it in my planner. It acts as a sort of self-check and is a good way of measuring how productive you’ve been throughout the day.

  1. I love this! And I really love planners lol 😂 it was hard getting into the habit of using one at first, but once it became a routine I couldn’t believe how I lived without one

  2. I love this! Planners are such a must, I could lose everything else, but if I were to lose my planner, I would be screwed! I agree with what you said about achieving long term goals… it’s practically impossible to get anything done without a planner! Xx

    1. Thank you! And I know exactly what you mean! I’ve only been keeping a planner for a few months, but I’ve already seen a difference in my productivity, especially when it comes to my long-term goals!

  3. I used to have a day planner, but have since started using the calendar and reminder apps on my phone. I always have my phone with me and it beeps at me to remind me! 🙂 I find the older I get, the more I need things to make noises at me to remind me of things I need to do/want to do/goals. Any planner is most definitely a must to help with productivity! Great post!

I am normally a planner sort of gal in my work life, but need to institute this in my personal life too (with the aim that those things I want to do and get done in my personal life might one day BE my professional life!!) This has given me the push to find a pretty one and start this weekend…Thanks Paige!

  5. Planners have my heart! I love planners so much. I use an Erin Condren planner for school and daily life and I’m obsessed! Some people think I’m a little crazy cause it’s all color coded, but thats how I stay organized!

  6. I can,t do without my planners. However I ordered a n expensive decorative one and I,ll probably make one out of a composition tablet because this one only a date (calender) one not enough room to really write in.

  7. Great Post! There’s nothing like the feeling of checking off every single item… and nothing like the weight off your shoulders when you don’t have to wonder how to make the most of your day; it’s all laid out for you in your planner! I always say mine is my personal assistant 😉

  8. I have just started using my planner and can’t help but love it. ❤ But every other day my plans clash with those of the people around me and somehow that ends up messing my plans altogether. Those days, I can't help but detest my planner because at the end of the day, it reminds me of all the things that I should have done but didn't do for whatever reason. Damn my mood swings. LMAO.
