5 Products That I’ll Never Buy Again, Vol. II

Earlier this month, I wrote a post entitled “5 Products That I’ll Never Buy Again,” in which I talked about some beauty products that I’ve had poor experiences with. I was very excited to see that many of you had similar reactions to the items I talked about, so I thought I would do another one of these blog posts.

If you haven’t checked out the first addition of this little series, I suggest you do so before reading this. In that post, I get into the background of why I decided to write about some products I dislike. Plus, I’d love to see how you feel about those five products as well.

Also, before I begin, I want to share a quick disclaimer and say that in no way am I trying to diss these products or the people who like them. We all have different experiences and impressions when it comes to makeup, and these are simply some poor ones that I’ve had. If you happen to love one of the products on this list, that’s great. It’s all a matter of preference and skin type.

Anyways, the first product that I’d like to discuss is the Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation. If you know me, chances are you know that Rimmel is one of my favorite drugstore brands. I think they make great products for affordable prices. In fact, their Stay Matte Pressed Powder has been my holy grail powder since I started wearing makeup. So when Rimmel released this foundation a few years ago, you can imagine my excitement. I really wanted to like this product and I had extremely high expectations.

However, despite how badly I wanted to love this foundation, I found myself disappointed. The formula is thick and heavy. Not to mention it clings to dry patches like saran wrap. I prefer lightweight foundations, so this was a total bust for me. Needless to say, I’ll just stick to the pressed powder.

Another products list of products I dislike, another foundation primer. The next product I had a poor experience with is the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. It’s funny because I actually received a sample of this product in my April Sephora Play Box (review will be up soon!), which was about a week after Ruth commented on my last “products that I’ll never buy again” post and said she wasn’t a fan. After testing it out for myself, I wholeheartedly agree with her. The formula feels very greasy to me. It’s not quite as bad as the Maybelline Baby Skin primer, but it’s pretty close.

Another item I didn’t particularly like was the Outrageous Intense Waterproof Gel Eyeliner from the Sephora Collection. While this liner was definitely long-lasting, I wasn’t thrilled with the formula. The product was very dry and clumpy. I had a hard time getting it onto my liner brush. Even though it’s pretty inexpensive, I wouldn’t recommend it.

After doing some research, I’m almost certain that this next product is no longer available in stores. The e.l.f. All Over Cover Stick in Pink Lemonade  is something I wouldn’t repurchase. While the color is very pigmented, I had trouble getting it to blend, or even look natural. Whenever you apply this product is where it stays. It takes a significant amount of blending for it to move.

Lastly, the Covergirl Brow & Eye Makers Pencil in Soft Brown  is not a product that I liked, mostly because I didn’t care for the color. It may be a good shade for brows, but not so much for eyes. When I applied this eyeliner to my waterline, the color wasn’t noticeable at all. Plus, the pencil itself wasn’t designed for easy applicable. I felt like I was fighting to get the product on my eyes.

Thank you for reading! Let me know if you like this type of post. I’m thinking about making it into a regularly updated series. Would you like to see one of these every several months?

What are some products that you dislike?

Sincerely,

  1. Too Faced Better than Sex mascara. Uggh, I really hate to say that because when it’s brand new, it’s soooo good. But after only a few uses, the product gets clumpy and messy, and I have to wipe so much product off the wand just to get decent application. For $23, it’s such a waste. And I completely agree with the Rimmel Stay Matte foundation. I really wanted to like it, but it just looked horrible on my skin.

  2. I really like the Smashbox Primer, but I can see how people don’t like it. The formula is VERY thick. I have such bad pores though, so the thickness helps me. For a while, I’ve not really cared for the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks. However, I might need to give them another try, because it’s been a while. Great blog post! Feel free to check out my most recent post too!

    1. I’m glad you’ve had a good experience with it! Personally, I’m just not a fan of face primers. I can’t seem to find one that I like. As for the Kat Von D, I’ve never tried them, though I’ve found that most liquid lipsticks are really drying! Thank you and I will 🙂
