If you’re reading this title and thinking to yourself, “Paige, what are you saying?” you should know that I would’ve said the same thing up until about a month ago. But before you dismiss my feelings on Mondays as complete nonsense, take a moment to hear me out.
As I said, a month ago I never would’ve thought that I would be writing a blog post with this title. A month ago, I was writing posts about how to deal with Monday mornings and ranting about my dislike for the first day of the work week. Like most people on this planet, I’d always viewed Mondays as the bane of my existence. I dreaded waking up to tiredness and a whole new slew of things to accomplish. Weekends went by so incredibly fast and Mondays felt like a cold bucket of water being thrown in my face. It was a terrible, terrible feeling.
Then, a few weeks ago, something changed. I decided that I didn’t want to let the sourness of Monday mornings prevent me from getting things done and made the decision to give myself a demanding Monday schedule. As someone who really likes to set a general plan for my week, this meant putting together my biggest to-do lists for Mondays. It was a big push, but after a couple of weeks, I found that I was becoming my most productive self on Mondays. By removing myself from the it’s monday so I don’t have to do anything mindset, I was able to make the most out of the beginning of the work week.
I think the best way to change the “Monday mornings are the worst” narrative that we build up in our brains is to look at it like a new challenge. By embracing the fact that Mondays are difficult and viewing them as a different way of testing ourselves, we can transform Mondays into something positive and productive. Whenever I don’t want to work on a Monday, I remind myself that it’s important to invite challenge rather than detest it. That putting my best efforts out on a Monday is going to set the tone for a constructive week.
These thoughts are what have caused me to begin to appreciate Mondays a little more. Considering them to be like a weekly challenge has made them go from completely unbearable to totally tolerable.
If you’re someone who is always up for a challenge, try to apply that mindset to your Monday. You’ll be surprised what it can do to your work ethic.
