Hey everyone!
I want to start by saying a quick thank you to everyone who commented on my last post. When I posted that piece, I wasn’t sure how it would be received, so all the positive feedback made my day.
Anyways, given that yesterday’s post was all about helping other bloggers, it seemed fitting for me to practice what I preach today and write a post that could help other bloggers. When I first started Currently, Lately, blogging advice pieces really helped me understand the best blogging strategies and I want to try to do that for other people. That being said, if you’re a new blogger looking for some tips, don’t hesitate to ask.
While figuring how to setup and write a blog is a struggle itself, one of the greatest challenges you face in blogging is trying to attract a following. With so many blogs out there, it can be difficult for people to find yours. During my first month of blogging, I didn’t gain one single follower. And although I don’t fret about analytics too much, I found this incredibly frustrating. Blogging is about communicating with other people. I had the communicating part down, but I couldn’t figure out the other people element. These are some tips that I’ve gathered for anyone looking to reach a larger audience.
1. Use a good featured image
If there’s one thing that matters just as much as your blog posts themselves, it’s your photos. Clear and clean images are great at drawing a person’s eye. Your featured image is what potential readers will see when they are scrolling through WordPress. If they like it, there’s a good chance that they’ll click on your post. I noticed a big jump in my blog traffic after I started using backdrops and taking better flat lays. Be sure that the photos or graphics that you use are appealing.
2. Chose a great title
I know that I sound like a Language Arts teacher, but picking an effective title is very critical to your viewership. I try to be specific, but not too wordy. Give readers a clear idea of what the post is about, but don’t give everything away. For example, if you’re writing a review of a book/movie/beauty product, you could title it something like Does ____ Really Live Up to the Hype? Think of a title as a commercial for your post. Intrigue can draw people in.
3. Interact with other bloggers
Personally, interaction is my favorite part of blogging. I love to read other peoples’ posts and share my thoughts on them. Try to find bloggers who share similar interests and comment on their posts. In order to obtain readers, you have to be a reader. Make sure your engagement is thoughtful and genuine. People can tell when a comment is insincere.
4. Promote yourself using social media
I’ve mentioned this in the past, but social media are (it’s so strange that the word social media is plural) extremely important. Using them to promote your posts can attract a different set of people. Plus, you can connect with other bloggers.
5. Write about relevant topics
While blogging about what you’re passionate about is certainly the best strategy, it’s also important to write about things that will appeal to other people. Keeping up-to-date on current events, whether in the news or pop culture, can make for interesting blog content. Try writing about events going on in the world.
How do you bring readers to your blog?
Sincerely,
Paige

I know this wasn’t the point of your post or anything, but I had no idea that social media was supposed to be plural! It feels strange, but I’m sure I’ll be able to adjust.
Thanks for the post.

I have to admit, I sometimes will scroll past a post if I don’t see a nice featured image or the title isn’t something I think I’d want to read about. But interacting is definitely a must! All 5 are great tips that we should all know😊

You’re welcome! Finding topics to write about can be the trickiest part. It takes a while to figure out your voice, but once you do it gets much easier!

Hello! I’m a new blogger so thank you for those great ideas. I have a question… Do you use any paid advertising on social media platforms? Is it worth it? Thanks!

Those are some really helpful tips, thank you! I just started my blog over a month ago and I am currently struggling to get more followers. I am posting on social media everyday, but unfortunately I did neglect my Twitter account a while ago and am also struggling to get more followers on there too!
