8 Useful Blogging Tips for Beginners

Whenever I dedicate a post to blogging advice or tips, I like to reiterate the fact that I am by no means a professional blogger. I have been blogging for nearly eight months, which means that I am still relatively new and trying to learn for myself. However, I have recently received a few blogging-related questions. I really appreciate anyone who has reached out to me for advice. While I am definitely not an expert, I am happy to help. I thought it would be useful if I compiled a list of my top eight tips for new bloggers.

#1: Don’t expect to grow overnight

It’s understandable to want to develop a following on your blog, but do not bank on that happening in one day. It takes time for readers to find your site and become interested in your content. Worry about the quality of the work that you’re publishing instead of the number of followers you’re gaining. It will help you discover your voice and make blogging much more enjoyable.

#2: Social media matter

One thing that I severely underestimated was the power of social media. When I first made my blog, I rarely used Twitter or Instagram. Plus, my Pinterest page was pretty much nonexistent. It’s important to present yourself on several different platforms. This allows you to reach new readers and gives your current audience a chance to get to know you better.

#3: Quality photos are important

When most people make a blog, their primary focus is their writing, not their photography. However, taking good pictures is an important part of the blogging process. An engaging image can reel in readers. If you’re interested in reading my strategies for creating blog flat lays, feel free to check them out.

#4: Engage with your audience

When people comment on your posts, it’s important to reply. Blogging is all about interacting. If you ignore a comment, it may leave a bad impression on your reader. Be sure to read and comment on other bloggers’ posts as well. Make sure to be genuine about it though.

#5: Use attractive titles

When constructing a title, it’s crucial to create a name that captures the essence of the post without being too wordy. Go for titles that are simple yet effective.

#6: Always be honest

If you want readers to like your content, then you must be honest with them. This is especially important when it comes to product reviews. If you dislike a brand or product, be direct about it with your audience. Honesty is the only way to gain their trust.

#7: Use a clear blog name

When picking a blog name, it’s important to use something that clearly reflects what your blog will be about. If you give your blog a name that doesn’t correlate with your content, you will have a difficult time obtaining readers. For example, if you predominantly create beauty content, don’t name your blog something like I Love Baking or The Bookworm.

#8: Have fun

While most people create blogs out of passion, there are some that do so in order to receive free products or samples. Don’t make working with brands your biggest priority. It takes a lot of time and dedication for a blogger to be noticed by a brand. Make your blog about your interests and don’t fret over the free stuff.

What are some of your blogging tips?

Sincerely,

Paige

  1. Great article, Paige. I agree with all your advice and would add that it takes effort and dedication to gain followers. It also seems to be useful to post on the same day and time as then your followers know when to expect a post.

  3. You are so right! A few weeks ago I started to take social media more serious and it’s crazy how Instagram and Pinterest is giving me such a boost… I almost have more followers than on Bloglovin’. Sadly but I guess it’s just more attractive nowadays. xx Simone

  4. GREAT post. I love finding blogging tips that are actually practical. Just curious, do you think getting a Twitter/Facebook could help grow my audience? I’ve been thinking about it for a little while. Haven’t been brave enough to actually create an account! Lol

  5. I posted my first travel blog today and was like… Where are the followers 😂 I’m passionate about this though so I really don’t care how long it takes. I just love to travel and telling people ‘oh it was lovely’ on social media isn’t enough anymore.
