December Birchbox 2016

Hello!

Per usual, I will be kicking off this month’s beauty-related blog posts with a review of my latest goodies from Birchbox. I received some pretty interesting products this month, so I’m excited to delve into the review.

Coastal Scents Blush and Highlighter Duo (Full-size, $19.95)

Product Details: These favorites from the Blush & Bronzer Palette impart a radiant glow. Add a pop color to your cheekbones and sweep the highlight wherever you want a lifted and defined look.

Rating: 2/5

Texture: N/a

Smell: N/a

Uses (sample size): approximately four uses

Impressions: When I learned that I would be receiving a blush and highlighter sample in this month’s Birchbox, I’ll admit I felt a bit skeptical. A two-in-one sample may sound ideal, but I was worried it would mean the sizes of each individual product would be small. I realized I was right when I opened up the box and saw this sample. As you can see from the photos, the slots containing the highlighter and bronzer are very slim. It was extremely difficult to get my brushes to scoop up a decent amount of product. As a result, I sort of gave up with trying. From what I could tell, however, the blush was very pigmented.

Hey Honey Walk the Walk Propolis Foot Cream (Full-size, $23)

Product Details: Massage on this healing foot cream to soothe inflammation and soreness with chamomile, nix dry patches with jojoba oil, and eliminate bacteria with propolis extract.

Rating: 4/5

Texture: Creamy

Smell: Subtle, clean

Uses: 5+

Impressions: Overall, I thought this was a worthwhile product. It’s easy to apply and leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized. I thought that it worked better on dry patches than it did on soreness.

IPKN Flash Cream Radiant Primer (Full-size, $28)

Product Details: Rich in fruit extracts, this nourishing SPF 15 primer creates a smooth, luminous canvas for makeup with the help of shimmer pearl powder.

Rating: 4/5

Texture: Smooth, watery

Smell: Sunscreen

Uses: 4+

Impressions: I am very happy with this primer. It’s durable yet lightweight, so it feels like lotion on your skin. Not to mention it adds a nice glow to your everyday foundation and concealer routine. Since it’s currently winter where I live, I wasn’t able to see if the sunscreen aspect was effective, which leads me into this product’s one drawback. The scent of sunscreen is strong and overpowering. Additionally, I think its presence made the product a bit watery. Besides this, I was genuinely pleased with the product.

R+Co DEATH VALLEY Dry Shampoo (Full-size, $17-29)

Product Details: Style-refreshing spray that absorbs excess oil, gives hair volume and body, plus adds tousled texture.

Rating: 5/5

Texture: N/a

Smell: It smells like hairspray (though in a good way)

Uses: 4+

Impressions: This dry shampoo was definitely the best product I received in my December Birchbox. It does a fantastic job of soaking up the unwanted oil in my roots, and adds fun, playful volume to my hair. I like it so much that I think I might splurged on the full-size option.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3-Minute Peal (Full-size, $48)

Apply this acid-free peel to clean, dry skin for luminous results.

Rating: 3/5

Texture: Smooth, sticky

Smell: Faint, untraceable

Uses: 2

Impressions: I was quite excited to receive this product, so you can tell from my rating that it was a bit of a let down for me. What really bothered me was the size. I barely got two uses out of this bottle. To me, that’s not enough to make an accurate statement about the product. From what I did use, this peel did in fact moisturize my skin. I think it needs more than three minutes to have an affect though. The formula didn’t seem to dry in the allotted time.

That concludes this Birchbox review. For me, December was a good box month. I discovered some products that I could very well repurchase in the years to come.

Do you get Birchbox?

Sincerely,

Paige

  1. I used to get birchbox but i was getting tired of receiving tiny samples like that blush duo that I can’t even put a brush in. What I tend to do with samples like that is i use them as eyeshadows. I’m reconsidering getting it again and trying it for a couple of months.
