One thing everyone loves about the holidays is the treats. Chocolate bars. Candy canes. Sugar cookies. Winter is the season for the sweet tooth. But we don’t always want the calories that come along with a dessert. Sometimes we want to eat something sugary that’s also a little bit (but not really) good for us.
Cinnamon sugar popcorn is one of my absolute favorite snacks because it’s easy to make and a healthier alternative to dessert foods. Given that the holiday season is filled with many delicious but unhealthy dishes, I thought I’d share it for a change of pace.
(Of course, this doesn’t mean I won’t also be posting other dessert recipes this Blogmas. I have plenty of cookies that I’m dying to share.)
Step One: Gather Your Supplies
- Popcorn (Shocking, I know)
- One small ramekin
- napkins (at your own discretion)
- fake acorns and tiny ornaments (In order to take holiday-inspired, aesthetically pleasing photos of your food, of course. You could also skip this step and save yourself about twenty-five minutes of pure agony. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get the light to turn out right on these photos)
Step Two: Make your popcorn
Now personally, I prefer to pop my popcorn on the stovetop rather than using a microwavable bag. While this is a bit more work, I have several reasons. 1). It tastes significantly better. 2). It doesn’t have all of the preservatives that are in prepackaged popcorn. 3). You can make a lot more at a time.
Usually, I’ll sprinkle the bottom of a large cooking pan with vegetable oil, dump the kernels in, and then shake the pan until they’ve popped. The process is pretty self-explanatory.
Step Three: Make your cinnamon sugar topping
In your small ramekin, combine 1-2 tablespoons of pure white sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix the two ingredients thoroughly.
Step Four: Apply your cinnamon sugar to your popcorn and serve
Thank you so much for checking out this blog post. I know many of the steps in this recipe are quite obvious, but I really wanted to share this little treat with you all. When I’m at home and in the mood for something sweet, this is the first food that always comes to mind. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
What are some of your favorite holiday treats? Share them with me in the comments below. I’d love to try out new dishes.
Be sure to check out my next Blogmas post. I’ll be blogging every day up until the 25th.
