Blogmas #1: Birchbox Review November 2016

I know it’s not exactly festive to kick off Blogmas with a Birchbox review, but I’ve written one every month since I started blogging, so I feel obligated to continue the streak. I promise tomorrow’s post will be holiday-oriented.

This month, Birchbox’s theme was “The Finishing Touch.” It was all about the little details that somehow manage to pull everything together. Overall, I really love this concept. We all have those products that just seem to complete a look. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked when this month’s box arrived.

Davines “This Is a Sea Salt Spray”(Great name) (Full-size, $28)

Product Details: This styling spray gives you beachy texture and megavolume without any stickiness. Mist onto wet hair to create body or onto dry hair to add texturized volume.

Rating: 5/5

Texture: N/a

Smell: Vanilla

Uses (sample size): So far, I’ve used it four times and I haven’t run out.

Impressions: Given how much I adore beach-inspired tresses, this product was perfect for me. I’ve found myself constantly reaching for it this month. I love applying it to dry hair and then tousling it for a few minutes. It creates effortless, texturized waves. (Not to mention it seems like candy.)

dr. brandt “microdermabrasion skin exfoliant” (Full-size, $79)

Product Details: This breakthrough at-home treatment gives a glowing complexion. Apply to damp skin and massage in circular motions, avoiding the eye area.

Rating: 2/5

Texture: Grainy

Smell: Soapy

Uses (sample size): 5

Impressions: I was honestly astounded by the fact that I disliked this product, given my love for all things dr. brandt. The real issue I had was that it was too rough on my skin. My face was covered in red patches after I washed it off. This simply wasn’t my cup of tea.

(I feel like I have to say this a lot, but sorry for my nails. I know they look atrocious. I haven’t had time to repaint them.)

jane iredale “Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain” (Full-size, $25)

Product Details: This magical color-changing stain uses olive and avocado oils to soften and soothe both lips and cheeks.

Rating: 4/5

Texture: Soft, creamy

Smell: N/a

Uses (sample size): I’ve used this sample three times and most of the product remains.

Product Details: Nourishing candlenut oil deeply penetrates for softer, smoother skin.

Rating: 4.5/5

Texture: Smooth, silky

Smell: Subtle, clean

Uses (sample size): 3+

Impressions: JUARA really executed nicely with this candlenut body cream. It has a soft, clean scent that doesn’t irritate my senses, and it nourishes the driest patches of my skin. I’d highly recommend giving it a try.

Lavanila “The Healthy Fragrance-Pure Vanilla” (Full-size, $19-58)

Product Details: This sweet and sultry scent blends notes of Madagascar vanilla, Tonka bean, and goji berry.

Rating: 3/5

Texture: N/a

Smell: Vanilla (duh…)

Uses (sample size): 4+

Impressions: As someone who likes soft, simple scents, I knew before I even opened this that it would be good for me. Madagascar vanilla is such a great scent to wear during the day. It’s sweet, but not too overpowering.
