I’ve had a pretty hectic day today, which means I haven’t had much time to write. However, since I try to post every other day, I wanted to get something up. Sorry if this seems sloppy or rushed.
October is coming to a close, which means it’s time for me to review my latest Birchbox. This month, Birchbox’s theme was reviving and restoring. The products selected were supposed to help you “unwind” and “rejuvenate.” Here are the items I received:
amika Nourishing Mask (Full-size, $12-28)
Product Details: Packed with sea berry (which is chock-full of omegas) and jojoba oil, this paraben-free mask intensely hydrates strands while repairing damage and sealing frayed ends.
Texture: Rich, creamy. It has the consistency of shampoo or lotion.
Smell: Sweet, fruity.
Uses: I got five uses out of the sample.
Impressions: My favorite aspect of this hair mask was without a doubt the smell. It has a nice, perfume-esque fragrance that lasts for a long time after use. The mask also left my hair feeling smooth and soft. Its hydrating properties work really well.
Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask (Full-size, $58)
Product Details: This potent mask targets excess oil, evens tone, and sheds dead skin cells to give your skin a healthy, all-natural glow.
Texture: Product has a gel-like consistency, sort of like a Jell-O. for your face.
Smell: Smells soapy.
Uses: I got about four good uses out of this sample.
Impressions: As a lover of face masks, I was incredibly excited to receive this product. It was very easy to apply and remove. My favorite thing about it was the way it made my skin feel. It made my skin feel refreshed and oil-free. The only problem I had with this mask was that, in combination with my other daily face products, it left my skin a tad bit dry. I don’t attribute this completely to the mask though; I think it was a result of using too many face products at once.
LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick (Full-size, $8)
Product Details: This high-pigment formula, in a shade hand-picked by Tati Westbrook, features a matte finish that lasts all day while staying comfortable.
Texture: Smooth, dry.
Smell: Nothing but your typical lipstick smell.
Uses: I’ve tried out this sample about three times. Still haven’t used it up.
Impressions: I love fall lipsticks. There’s nothing more exciting to me than a deep berry or burgundy lip. Needless to say I took an immediate liking to this plum color. However, I found this lipstick very drying. It’s a great color and a great price, but a moisturizer is a necessity. Don’t you just despise that about matte lipsticks?
Mally Beauty Voluminzing Mascara (Full-size, $20)
Product Details: Celeb makeup artist Mally Roncal designed this lash-plumping formula to give you glamorous, va-va-voom lashes.
Uses: I’ve used this mascara sample about four times. I have yet to run out of it.
Impressions: I’ll be honest here: mascaras never really excite me. As long as a mascara isn’t clumpy, it serves its purpose. This Mally mascara does just that. It’s a good, reliable product.
TokyoMilk Dark Pretty Rotten Eau de Parfum (Full-size $42)
Product Details: Inspired by fairy tales, this mossy scent pairs layers of ambrosia apple and Queen Amber rose with green, leafy notes.
Smell: Earthy, light.
Uses: I’ve used this sample three times and about half of it is gone.
Impressions: When it comes to perfume, I like mine to be as subtle as possible. This perfume by TokyoMilk leaves you with a nice, clean scent. It reminds me of “Sea Cotton Island” from Bath & Body Works.
Until next time.
