Baking Adventures: I Tried (And Failed) To Make Brownies

There’s a reason I don’t post recipes…I can’t cook. My lack of culinary prowess is actually quite embarrassing. While most people can manage to whip a semi-edible dish, my creations always turn out horrific. Unless I follow a recipe, it’s difficult for me to even eat the food I make.

In spite of that I can’t cook, I still enjoy the process of baking. After a particularly stressful day, being in a kitchen somehow feels therapeutic. Even if the final product turns out poorly, it’s a fun way to pass time.

Today I thought it would be interesting if I created my own brownie recipe from scratch. To keep it authentic,Β I didn’t look at any real recipes until after I made my batter. Although it looks tasty in the pictures, the batter was bitter and bland. I later learned I added way too much flour.

Original Recipe (DO NOT TRY UNLESS YOU’RE TRYING TO MAKE TERRIBLE BROWNIES):

  • 2 1/2 cups flour (bad decision, Paige)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 bag of chocolate chips
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla

Directions: Mix senselessly until all ingredients are stirred in. Then, bake at 425 degrees for twenty minutes or until cooked.

The batter was incredibly thick and sticky. It reminded me of Play-Doh.

The batter was so sticky that it took a great deal of effort to get it out of the bowl.

A piece of the finished product. It didn’t taste as bad once it was cooked, but it was quite chewy.

After testing out this recipe, I decided to write up a new one. These brownies will (hopefully) taste better.

Revised Recipe:

  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 bag chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions: Stir flour, cocoa powder, and sugar. Add vanilla, butter, eggs and chocolate chips gradually. Bake at 425 degrees for twenty minutes or until done.

This post was a little different from what I normally write, but I really enjoyed putting it together. Let me know if you like this type of thing.Β I’m sure there are other foods I could mess up…

As always, thank you for reading.

Sincerely yours,

Paige
