Beauty on a Budget: Five Drugstore Beauty Products That Will Change Your Life

Fact: Makeup is not a cost effective hobby.

In fact, it’s like an oil rig for your money. It drills into your bank account, consumes every dollar, every nickel, every penny, and leaves you with nothing.

While I don’t mind splurging on makeup every now and then, it’s not something I can do frequently. I can’t drive to Sephora every week and drop fifty dollars on an eyeshadow palette. As much as I know we all would like to, that idea isn’t feasible. We have other expenses to worry about. Items that are more important than makeup. However, we shouldn’t have to compromise just because we’re living on budgets. We should still be able to buy quality products, even if they’re less expensive.

Today I thought it would be fun to introduce a new series to this blog that focuses on drugstore products. Drugstore makeup is not only affordable, but sometimes more effective than high-end brands. There are items I have picked up my local convenient store that I’ve enjoyed more than similar products from pricy brands. If you would like to see more installments of this series, let me know. I’ve several ideas already.

These are my current favorite drugstore makeup products. I highly suggest you give them a try.

#1 Rimmel London “Stay Matte” Long Lasting Pressed Powder ($4.99)

If you’ve been a part of the beauty community for awhile, you probably remember this product being all the rage two or three years ago. I groomed it into my makeup routine then and have been using it ever since. Trust me when I say that it’s incredibly long-lasting. I’m one of those people who never feels matte enough.

Effectiveness: 5/5

Texture:5/5

Appearance: n/a (it’s a pressed powder…it looks powdery)

Overall: 5/5

#2 NYC Cheek Glows ($2.77)

The first blush I ever bought was an NYC Cheek Glow. I was pleasantly surprised by the vibrant pigmentation and easy blendability.  This blush is especially great for beginners, because it’s not only effective but inexpensive.

Effectiveness: 4.5/5

Texture: 4.5/5

Appearance: 3.8/5

Overall: 4.3/5

#3 Maybelline Color Tattoo ($6.99)

I know this is another cult favorite, but I’m so pleased with this product that I had to include it. Maybelline’s Color Tattoos offer great pigmentation and durable eyeshadow. I love to use this metallic pink as a base for colorful looks.

Effectiveness: 5/5

Texture: 4.5/5

Appearance: 5/5

Overall: 4.8/5

#4 NYX The Go-To Palette ($16.99)

The characteristic of this palette that really draws me in is its convenience. It comes with a highlighter, blush, bronzer, and six eyeshadow, which is incredibly handy for on the go. I took this palette on vacation with me over the summer and used it every day. If you’re going on a trip sometime in the near future, I’d pick this up.

Effectiveness:  5/5

Texture: 5/5

Appearance: 5/5

Overall: 5/5

#5 Neutrogena Skin Clearing oil-free makeup ($13.99)

For many years, Neutrogena’s Skin Clearing foundation has been a drugstore favorite of mine. It provides a decent amount of coverage without feeling heavy on your face. In addition, I love the fact that it is oil-free. Oil is one of the leading causes of acne, so it is nice to use a product that contains none.

Effectiveness: 4.5/5

Texture: 5/5

Appearance: 4.5/5

Overall: 4.7/5

Paige
