Birchbox Review August 2016

Greetings Reader!

It’s come time for me to review my Birchbox of the month of August. I’ll save myself the effort and not rant about how fast thirty-one days go by.

August’s Birchbox was all about hair. I’ll begrudgingly admit that when I found out this information, I was a little (a lot) disappointed. Hair is not my niche. If I manage to yank a brush through the frizzy mop of blonde that sits on the top of my head, I consider it a success. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the hair care products I received in my Birchbox. Here’s a list of everything:

Balance Me “Congested Skim Serum” (Full-size, $30)

Beauty Protector “Protect & Oil” (Full-size, $28)

Manna Kadar Cosmetics “The Day Dream Palette” (Full-size, $25)

R+Co “BADLANDS Dry Shampoo Paste” (Full-size, $28)

Vasanti “BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator” (Full-size, $34)

Product #1:

Balance Me “Congested Skim Serum”

Appearance: 4/5

Texture: 3/5

Effectiveness: 3/5

Overall Rating: 3/5

For me, Balance Me’s “Congested Skin Serum” was an effective product. After several uses, it significantly reduced my blemishes without turning my skin into the Sahara. If you’re seeking an acne treatment, I would give this serum a try. However, the product also claims to “refine pores,” which it didn’t do. Therefore,

Excuse my hand. I couldn’t get this bottle to stay still for the life of me.

Beauty Protector “Protect & Oil”

Appearance: 4.5/5

Texture: 5/5

Effectiveness: 4.8/5

Overall: 4.7/5

I was highly impressed by this hair oil. In fact, I’m seriously considering making it a staple of my (currently nonexistent) morning hair routine. It leaves your hair silky and soft all day. Plus, it protects your tresses from UV rays and heat damage.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics “The Day Dream Palette”

Appearance: 3/5

Texture: 3/5

Effectiveness: 3.5/5

Overall: 3.2/5

Before I review this eye shadow, I’d like to preface that the name is a bit deceiving. I did not receive a full palette in my August Birchbox; I received a single shadow from this palette. I found this eye shadow to be somewhat underwhelming. Don’t misunderstand my words, there’s nothing wrong with it. However, at the same time, there’s nothing special about it either. It blends nicely without creasing, but it doesn’t last all day. I used it with my holy grail primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion, of course), but still had to reapply.

R+Co “BADLANDS Dry Shampoo Paste”

Appearance: 3/5

Texture: 4.5/5

Effectiveness: 4/5

Overall: 3.8/5

Product #5

R+Co’s dry shampoo paste definitely dried the excess oil from my hair. However, it also dried out my hair, leaving it almost chalky.

Vasanti “BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator”

Appearance: 3/5

Texture: 2.7/5

Effectiveness: 3.8/5

Overall: 3.2/5

This face rejuvenator worked very well to energize my skin. I frequently use it to get myself out of the zombie-like haze I wake up in on school mornings.

A (in no way overdramatized) depiction of me getting up in the morning.

However, I wasn’t entirely impressed by the formula of this rejuvenator. It was rough and grainy and reminded me of sandpaper. Despite this flaw, it was still an effective product. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to liven themselves up in the A.M.

Overall, I was content with my August Birchbox. What’s better than makeup that comes in the mail? (Hint: nothing).

Thank you so much for reading.

Sincerely yours,

Paige
